I can imagine knights fighting like that, not getting through the armor for a while and kinda just stopping the fight, looking at each other for a moment before both knights decide to move on to a different less armored opponent.

So every great classical/medieval battle featured several thousand men trying to poke sharp things where there was a gap in the armour?

I bet if there was ever a knight who found an Okatana left behind by a samurai, who accidently sailed to their land and went back, it be like a new toy and would attract everyone just to see the damn thing.

Edit:
1k likes. God damn. If only I had that many views on most of my music videos. Lol.

Can we please ever get you or your friends to remake a duel with a Byzantine Varangian warrior? Their high medieval armor was top notch

I did some study after seeing these videos by Dequitem. I think the best designs of Japanese swords made for such task would be either shobu zukuri blades or nagamaki/naginata naoshi blades with long and slender points known as ōkissaki.

There is such a blade, cut down from a nagamaki attributed to the mihara 三原school which I think would fair good. It is an average blade of 75 cm, a shallow curve and a very thick blade profile.

Seeing a couple of fully armored knights in hand to hand combat is a treat. Seeing one weilding an O katana is icing on the cake! Excellent long from video, lots of good information! Thanks

Thank you! Finally a footage of someone using the katana as a sword, not as a flag or something. And equal footwork!

Didn't expect the curve of the blade to be that effective!

There goes our neighbor again, fighting against a man with a full plate armor

Getting dragged down by a bunch of "peasants" while in full plate must be horrifying. So I imagine armored bros had superb teamwork to protect against this

Half-swording with a katana is awesome.

I just wish there was a place in the states where I could get some good armor. Had a buddy who had a full set of HEMA gear, but I haven’t been able to reach him for a while. I just love the Sallet helmet.

The problem is that the samurais or (other japanese soldiers i can't remember the name of, ashigarus, maybe???) weren't wearing anywhere near as much armour, so getting up close to a European in full plate and chainmail was most likely off the table.

Though i don't know much about Japanese armour, so maybe it's more effective than it seems, most likely not on par with mid-late 14th and definitely not 15th century plate armour, though.
