How to move just a part of the whole image in Gimp:
1. Press [E] for "Ellipse Select Tool" or:
1. Press [R] for "Rectangle Select Tool".
2. Select your desired area with the mouse cursor.
3. Press and hold [Ctrl]+[Alt].
4. Now left click and hold onto your selected area and move it.
5. Done.

I have the same question as everybody else.
How do I move one selected element without moving the whole layer?

I would like to rectangle select an area of a picture and then drag it to another part of the picture. Does GIMP do this?

MS Paint just cuts that part out when I drag it and I tried Paint.NET which just selects another area. I had MGI Photosuite SE and it did exactly what I wanted but I have a newer PC and that's a win 95 program. It served me for many years and I'm just looking for something like it that works just as good.

Sorry to bug you, but is there any way to select and replicate a part of an image without deleting it.
