Regarding coffee, Kenya lost it in the early 1990s when countries from Asia e.g., Vietnam joined ILO and started exporting coffee. Before then, such (ex-)communist countries featured nowhere in world exports of coffee. Currently Vietnam is the second largest producer of coffee after Brazil. Kenya has been dethroned from the first-class train of coffee production because the humid climate of countries like Vietnam is very ideal for coffee production. Thus the production cost of one 60 kg bag of coffee is quite low and therefore more competitive. The opportunity cost of coffee production in Kenya is MAINLY based on the alternative use of land on which coffee is grown. That most coffee is produced in Mt. Kenya which has a closer proximity to Nairobi explains why Kenyan coffee production will always be on a declining course.

Try as I may, it is difficult to get kind words to describe Monsieur Gaçagua in a respectful way.

Gaçagua himself is not even sure what he wants to be:- a raging Kikuyu tribal jingoist, or a fiery Chairman of some random Nduthi owners' SACCO in Karatina; a Deputy President of the whole Republic of Kenya, or a simple hired personal assistant, doubling as an errand boy.

As far as I know, Rigathi was presumably elected as DP. However, he can't seem to find his footing. He's all over the place and more than ready to be used as a one-man wrecking ball against 'enemies', real and imaginary. All he does is create rifts, clone mutual suspicion, and clumsily oversell the regime he is part of.

I'm sorry for the dysphemism, but Gaçagua comes across mostly as a clinical idiot who is out of his depth and beyond salvation. It pains me to refer to him like that, because he is my Deputy President, for now; but his behaviour and crude utterances, devoid of self-introspection, leave no other possible charitable conclusion.
