You have to mute them both physically, not just the mini. One is a switch the other is a button.

As an elderly newcomer to the e cho dot and echo I am discovering the benefits to people with various disabilities of being able to turn on lights, radio, TV and so forth without having to leave my bed or chair. People like me without technical knowledge would appreciate the occasional talk to teach very basic stuff in words of one syllable in great detail how to get the best out of echo.

I've just bought an Echo and Echo Dot only as I have Prime so controlling the TV and Amazon music are a plus. However, I can see that Google will no doubt have the edge on the query front - I'd be surprised if they didn't!

Echo getting Apple Music support is a big plus. I have a HomePod but way too expensive to dot around the house. A couple of Echo Dots in the Black Friday sale looks like a good investment now the kids can listen to all their music on them.

You can update the software but can't update the Speaker. In coming days may be you will get online updates for Echo dot. So I think echo dot is better for me.

I own both an Alexa and a dot and a google home mini I have more issues with others Alexa wake words and completing smart requests than I do with the mini. The home app is much better t use and also I can ask mini to do a few requests in one go while Alexa can't have to ask it to turn on things separately so frustrating

Google Home Minis can also be paired in stereo or a configuration to play the same music on multiple Minis. After testing both for a while, you're spot on that the built-in intelligence of the Google devices is FAR better than the Amazon ones. One thing you didn't evaluate is the available skills/apps, which Amazon is pushing hard. Unfortunately, literally zero skills/apps are of much use at this point to myself, which will likely change in the future. I'm migrating over to the Google offerings at this point. Hopefully Sonos releases support for the Google Assistant as their speakers have been superior to everything else in the digital assistant world so far.

I've recently added 2 Google Home Mini's to my existing 3 Echo device household (2nd Gen) largely because I was becoming frustrated at Amazon being very slow at following features out in the UK i.e Follow Up mode, I have enjoyed using the multiple request function on the Google Home Mini i.e turn off loving AND turn off kitchen etc & the Google Home app is superior to the Alexa app in my opinion. Amazon have finally rolled out Follow Up Mode in the UK which is the major feature that I have been waiting for & this puts Alexa back on a par with Google Assistant

9 times out of 10 I would choose Google over any other option but for a smart speaker I had to go with Alexa simply because its home automation has a slight edge and much better trigger word...

I have the Amazon echo second generation bigger speaker what's a little sub inside of it I'm assuming that it is exact same thing as the third generation it was on sale Black Friday so that's why I got it well I know both of them were but second generations more powerful speaker wise I'm assuming just because it's bigger so I don't know much about the Google mini

Feels biased towards Amazon the placement of his decibel reader was bad for the sound test also didn't seem to know much/ left out lots of features the google has including that last bit the google can be used in the same way for better audio for parties
