Pursed lip breathing:

Benefits:
** May relieve shortness of breath
** Improves ventilation (airflow in and out of your lungs)
** Releases trapped air in the lungs
** Pressure gradient keeps the airways open longer which decreases
breathing effort
** Slows the breathing rate by extending exhalation (breathing out)
** Improves breathing patterns
** Causes general relaxation

Technique:

1. Relax your shoulders.

2. Breathe in through the nose and exhale out through your pursed lips.
"Smell the flowers. Blow out the candles."

3. Repeat 4-10 times or until you feel less short of breath. Do not
hyperventilate.

I want to add something to your wonderful video. There IS something magical about pursed lip breathing. It would be good to tell people, when they are blowing out to push their belly back towards their spine as part of the action. This is a great way to breathe if you get out of breath from some activity like walking up a hill or riding in the Tour de France (Yes, the cyclists have used this). It is a great way to breathe when you want to fall asleep. It is a great way to breathe if you want a little "refresher" while sitting at the computer!
