Todays project I am working on this Yardmachines by MTD tractor model 638 RL & the problem with this riding lawn mower it starts than dies I will show you how I do my diagnosis's & fix this mower with some tips along the way.

Hi, Joe. Just curious what year that MTD lawn tractor is. I have a very similar model. But I think mine might be older. It has the same engine and I think the same carburetor.

Hey i have a Scotts John Deere, runs and cuts good, but after boosting it off, its shuts down after i un-hook the booater cables!! 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ whats keeping it doin that???

I really like Tecumseh engines and carbs... Except the one you have on that machine. There's a little rubber oring that gets swollen(behind that big screw on the bowl). That could have been some of your fuel flow issue. Sounds like you got it licked though. Nicely done.

The little screen in the carburetor on mtd mowers is the culprit a lot of times. That's what I think may be wrong with mine after I have cleaned the tank changed all the fuel line and replaced the fuel filter.

It was vapor lock I made sure I got all the air out of the line and it's working still

Those filters r only made for a mower with fuel pump if its gravity fed it needs a filter with just a screen not the filter inside learned that from a guy at ace hardware

I have the same machine and now it only runs on choke, I have ordered a Chinese copy of the carb on Amazon and try to change the carb...

Mine did the same thing, Fuel Line due to deterioration.

It was probably vapor lock. Did the exact same thing you did to yours didn't work.

It’s because your gas cap is clogged at breather hole. Building pressure up in gas tank.
