Phase 1 isn't too bad, phase 2 is the thing of nightmares

Every single video of this fight that I watch, the boss does a few attacks then pauses. Mine literally does not stop attacking for one second. I have yet to fight this phase a single time and even be able to drink a single flask. He does not stop swinging and attacking until I am dead

Makes it look so easy. Mine seems to be much more erratic and always messes me up. Properly doing my head in.

Around 2:40 in reference to beast clergyman and Gurranq being separate: they are the same. If you have fed Gurranq all of the deathroots in the game, then you get extra dialogue in the start of the fight, showing that he was/is “Gurranq”

The first phase is so easy. Then I get killed on his first few combos of the second.

Could you do a lengthier explanation on dodging the 2nd phase? Maybe some slow motion? It’s just not clicking for me. As soon as I recognize and get the dodges for his first combo, he’s onto the next and they inevitably hit me.

How can anyone say phase 2 isn't that bad, this guy is going bananas. He's like the flash lol.

Phase 1 of the Beast Clergyman/Maliketh fight is very tedious and difficult on a strength weapon because of how quickly he back peddles and attacks you. Some larger weapons also have long enough recovery times that he will regularly hit you during those recovery animations. This fight was much more difficult than it needed to be on my strength/faith build, and am looking forward to not having to face him again in future play-throughs because of my weapons slow recovery times.

How did you not get the 2nd phase AOE like multi-slash attack? He loves to spam that when i fight him

in my first attempt against this boss the phase 1 was not that big of a deal i got his phase 1 first try but... oh man that phase 2 i died so fast in that phase two it was one of those deaths which make u realize how much effort is gonna come

The last 7 hours i logged into Elden Ring i spent desperately trying to overcome this ridiculously hard boss.... Barely any troubles up to that point, beat most bosses 1-5 tries. It's pure frustration at this point, Sword Saint Isshin all over again

ok, so for me personally, I found it a bit harder to try and use the blasphemous claw. not sure if i just wasn't seeing the "gold" clearly or what. this was much easier for me using 2 seppuku katanas, which if lucky, I could get through the clergyman pretty quickly, and then again, if pretty lucky, I could get really good damage on Maliketh right after the transition in to him, then kite and dodge him and finish him off with the final bleed damage.

this fight is so difficult when you have a colossal sword build because he moves so fast that its nearly impossible to get hits in. I do crazy amounts of damage but i can never hit him

Johnny i wanna say thank you for these guides. I love how straightforward you are with these and how much detail you put in to help people like me fight these absolutely annoying *and in malekiths case* beyond stunning bosses

His 2 handed slow overhead is BY FAR the easiest move to punish and dps. You literally just have to walk up to his left leg and attack. He'll never hit you. Also, I agree that Beast Clergyman is harder or at least more tedious. Hit and run tactic works really well with Beast, just bait a combo then punish then get away in front of him and repeat. For Maliketh basically just wait for his overheads and use the pillars to block the projectiles. I didn't know about the claw item til I watched a friend do this fight yesterday, but that makes it even easier

Question: with the blasphemous claw, do you have to have a shield equipped to use it? Or does “it” parry for you when you press the use item button with the right timing?

he has unique dialogue if you do gurraques (idk how to spell it) full quest so they absolutely are the same person

This game makes me feel sick. Seeing someone defeat an enemy that has killed you 100 times with such ease is soul destroying

The Beast Clergyman was the identity Malekith took on when he submerged the remainder of the Rune of Death (what *wasn't* stolen by Ranni) in his own body to secure it against further theft. He returns to his original form once he releases death (when he yanks out his sword). They are absolutely the same character.

Use the pillars in the room to your advantage. 1st phase if you put them between you and the boss he can’t hurt you at all. 1 rotten breath and dead. 2nd phase they’re useful for buying space / time for spells

The Black Blade Maliketh is such a bad ass.
The path up the stairs to fighting him also lets you know that you are about to fight someone tough, and he definitely was.

Awesome boss.
