You're not a negative leaning reviewer so I really trust when you say a transfer is trash. Thank you!

My biggest 4K disappointments of 2020 are that we didn't get more 4K releases; we didn't get more properly done 4K releases; and that we didn't get 4K releases of newer releases - like Bill & Ted's, Unhinged, and so on. Great year end review. 👍

I always wondered why VFW had a 4K release in general lol liked the movie overall....but bluray is fine for that type of movie especially being so dark like you said...
Great video! Checking out your top 10 best next!

Akira. No HDR is a bonehead move. And my replacement request from Funimation has been "under review" for over a week.

i thought phantom menace looked alot better than i expected. better than previous versions and CGI didn't look as bad as I remember the bluray looking. sounded great (i do have atmos setup).

I agree 100 percent with your list ... here’s an idea you might consider for future episodes... how about the best remastered BluRay’s from different decades ? For instance I’d pick Ben Hur as the best remaster from the 50’s and Lawrence of Arabia from the 60’s .... just a thought ... have a happy new year !

The way that Richard Donner shoots his movies never looks crispy on 4k example would be Goonies and Superman the movie! I agree with your list Total Recall and Phantom Menace look weak as well!

Happy New Year, man! All the best in 2021

I unfortunately own the PT on 4k. Would return them to DMC, but they're open, and I got them many months ago.

One of the 4K discs I picked up this year that was disappointing was Waterworld. Was a big fan of the film and was expecting a better release than what we got- I agree about Total Recall, but I have to admit the 5.1 as bad as it is, is still better that the front heavy audio mix on the digital file you stream on iTunes ...still glad I bought it, but much room for improvement. Great vids! Looking forward to 2021 4K stuff!

I thought Goonies looked best ever had . Just watch scenes waterfalls pirate ship in background..So crisp and clean . I don't remember ever seeing that so crisp in clean ever.

I was fine with the audio on Total Recall and didn't notice any artifacts on my Sony 65" TV. As far as the sound, this is how the movie always sounded, even in stereo/surround when it first came out. Star Wars Episode 1 was finished digitally in 1999 and the DNR is baked into the original master. Not everything needs an Atmos mix to sound good, 5.1 is fine for some (especially older) movies. In some cases the original elements aren't around anymore making a remix impossible. I hate DNR & artificial sharpening and wish they were never used for Blu-Ray or 4K UHD Blu-Ray.

Nice video. What not to buy is almost more important than what to buy. On that note, The Gentlemen (guy ritchie film) was super bummer on 4k. It has beautiful outdoor scenes and fancy indoor scenes that would have bursted with dolby vision or 10+, but as far as i can tell they didnt add either to the disc and thats why its so underwhelming. What a bummer.

i didnt think The Goonies was that bad, disappointed that they didnt mix a new Atmois track, but thats what happens when they dont want to spend millions getting a new licence for an old music track, same as why a lot of studiocanal catalog titles don't have atmos mixes.

The Goonies was at the top of my disappointment list (image), followed by the Bourne movie collection, which also weren't as "crisp" image-wise as I had hoped they would be. Total Recall is my all-time favorite movie, so I was sold just by the announcement; I agree that the audio was very lacking.

When are you going to review tremors. Received my copy this week. Saw the first 45 mins today and the pic and audio are really good. Arrow has remastered it well. Owned the universal Dnr blu ray previously. What an upgrade!!! The Bass rocks, very good channel seperation and to my surprise good surrounds. I was watching this with DTS Neural X activated and was getting overhead surrounds as well.

This really hurts me to say, but the Vinegar syndrome release of Rad on 4k is pretty rough. I waited so many years to get a legit copy of this on disc. I'm glad I have it and I understand it was a low budget cult 80s movie, but the 4k quality isn't great. I'm not a grain hater or snob, but for the price and it being on 4k, it could have been better.

The DNR in Star Wars was to remove grain for the 3D version I believe as I read once grain causes huge issues to convert 2D films to 3D, the same happened with T2
