@jimmy a Geek ? Please you are misguiding people or your knowledge is little and after watching your video we assume you are inexperienced developer. We here at Atrix started with PHP(laravel, codeIgnitor) for long time and adopted Node.js later on. Believe me, what you are missing is the performance, possibilities and the future. What node.js has made possible it was never before with PHP. PHP lacks the performance when compared with node.js and difference is highly significant. With node.js, you are not only able to code server-side but it has totally change the web development and the future. Progressive web apps, Node package manager, Electron(Cross desktop Application), NativeScript, Ionic, Cross platform mobile applications, that all depends upon node.js.
All these revolutionary web technologies we see now a days all depend upon Node.js,
As a senior Full Stack laravel developer, I would recommend people to shift from PHP. PHP is good for basics, but Node.js is the masterpiece, game changer for Web Technologies and the future.
PHP launched PHP 7 earlier to match Node.js, but still it failed to do so in terms of performance, efficiency, scale ability, packages, workflow and etc.
Node.js is the future although i would recommend developers to start from PHP then shift to Node.js and you will be able to better understand why Node.js is the future.

What you gave above is a biased opinion and i assume you are are PHP full time developer but you know little of Node.js,
PHP app vs Node.js ( Performance), , Node.js is the king, even i believe you can't compare PHP ( a low level language) to huge technology such as Node.js that revolutionized web Development. :)

Those who are reading this, surely you love WordPress but just google "WordPress calypso" and you will see where the node.js is going. If you think PHP is better in a way do share your knowledge.

According to Dr. Charles Severance at the University of Michigan, JavaScript is a much more elegant and powerful language than PHP. It is also designed to be more of a systems language than simply a scripting language. That being said, he also says that PHP is just a FUNDAMENTAL part of the the internet's backend and is NEVER going away. Yes, it will probably be the case that major web apps will be using JavaScript as a systems language in the next decade but the majority of dynamic websites and ecommerce stores will still be using PHP (even if they use a JavaScript framework on the frontend). So just like Jimmy and Dr. Severance say, it is wise to learn PHP and have it as a toolbelt in your arsenal. Then learn JavaScript. :)

Wrong, node is faster, php is good for beginners due to entery level jobs. Also companies using node pay better.

When you say again and again PHP is a native programming language, what do you mean by that? A native programming language is something that can effectively interact with the system its running on and in that sense I see both NodeJS and PHP are native in their own way. Also I must say your knowledge about NodeJS is very limited to only client side JavaScript. You shouldn't be comparing two different languages unless you're a pro on both and have a good insight about them.
