German EV Fast Charging with ADS-TEC ChargeBox Booster | Quick Charge # 9

Join us for another "Quick Charge" session, this time over in Milford, MA to check out some slick German-engineered EV fast charging with the ADS-TEC Energy ChargeBox.

Comprised of two main products, the ChargeBox Booster and Dispenser, the former contains 140 kWh worth of battery capacity to support power-limited sites. It's also whisper-quiet, according to the manufacturer, which isn't super important at this noisy Interstate gas stop but could be a consideration for built-up metro and residential areas.

Take a tour of the site and see how much of the 320 kW rated power our Hyundai #IONIQ5 can suck down in our first session with the ChargeBox Booster system.

I have used the Porsche branded version of these at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta and at my local Porsche dealership in San Luis Obispo California. They are beautiful to look at and very quiet. And with a preconditioned car deliver as promised. I saw 260kW and had one charge 19-43% in 6min, 195kW avg.
funny that the Taycan in the splash screen vehicle, you can tell who funded a lot of this charger. 😂

I've been using these chargers at a couple of local gas stations near me for about 6 months now. Compared to EA, Chargepoint and most definitely Francis, these are the most reliable chargers available to me hands down.

Correction at 07:12, session was 26% to 67% state of charge. Is the ChargeBox system something you'd like to see on your travels?

$0.40 per kWh is a great price, not only in the NE, but pretty much anywhere. Really sweet setup too with the trash & wiper combo, plus bench to chill on. Someone took care in the planning of it. Nice spot too, next to a convenience store. Never heard of Schnell b4 this. Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.

Excellent chargers. And worked without issues. EA should be ashamed.

Hey Steve - would love to see some of these stations in our neck of the woods! Look really nice and the battery integration is a great idea...
Sunny and 86 degrees here in Desert Palm today!
Thanks for the video!

Nice to see other chargers/dispensers coming online for the CCS vehicles. Good video Steve. I'm jealous of those Ionic 5 charging curves! ⚡⚡

Thanks, Steve. Very nifty station. I think this might be the first installation of this hardware in the United States.

There is one of these in Edmond, OK. We’ve had it a couple years. I need to go try it out since it’s gotten great reviews.

I saw one user was actually able to manually reset the whole site themselves with the disconnects, (which were user-accessible though surely not on purpose), when the dispensers errored out in a charge session. Probably not intentional on the operator’s side but if it works it works 😂

I'd like to see some of these battery boosted stations. I haven't found any here in SoCal yet, unless the Volta DCFC that's almost always down is one.

I wish they would put the rated current _output_ in the spec sheet. As we all know, a rated power output is a completely useless spec for the vast majority of EVs. A charger that could put out 320kW on something like a Lucid at 900V might only put out 130kw on something like a Mach E or ID.4 (or Tesla) due to the voltage difference. There is an install at a dealership near me with Tellus (Blink) chargers that claim 120kw output but are limited to 150A, so they only charge 400V EVs at 50ish kW. Even with the Ioniq5 it’s less than 120kw for most of the curve due to the ridiculous current limit.
