I've been playing for 15 years and I do this too. Dont know why people use tuners or tuning forks. All you gotta do is make sure the 3 thick strings are a bit tighter than they would normally be and leave the thin strings loose. So with too much tension on the thick strings, once we tune up the thin strings they will actually take tension off the thick strings, resulting in a perfectly tuned guitar. Nice Gibson btw!

So, ok yeah that's how the physical tuning is located, but I think if you don't even know how to turn TO tune that you are doing great, I hope you stick with it and that's TURNING, not TUNING. But yes you are literally correct that's how I make strings stay too!
