My brother got me a used 2080 Ti for my birthday two years ago. It was "used in box." Good price on it too.

Turned out, totally unused stock. Never been sold or installed, it was returned after one sale as defective because the metal bracket on the back was bent past 90°. Pliers fixed it no trouble.

This reminds me of the time i was also looking for a used GPU, i found a 5700 XT 50th anniversary edition for around $150 at the time and it said perfect condition and everything. When it arrived however it was coated in rust on the IO port and had dead bugs inside.
Got my money back from ebay and the card was half functioning, some of its ports didn't work.
Eventually though i got it deeply cleaned and it miraculously worked with zero issues.
Now i have a free 5700 XT paired with a i3-12100f

Buying locally is honestly the best decision you know you aren't gonna get scammed for a GPU(maybe for like a lower vram model) but besides from that your fine

I recently got this. I have a bad habit of intentionally buying from suspicious sellers. And I saw this RTX 3070 brand new for $250. Thinking it was a scam, I bought. It arrived. Then I saw that the seller is now selling the same GPU for $600. I think the (Chinese) seller got confused at the exchange rate of our local currency to Yuan. Which gave me 50% accidentally.

This must happen reasonably regularly. I got a free 4790k pre mounted on the board (£349), when I bought just the motherboard brand new from Amazon (£90). I used that pc until November just passed.
I bought a v1 fanatec McLaren wheel rim, got the v2 with a pre mounted £60 quick release that I definitely didn't purchase. Nice, I hope this can happen forever.

2 years ago, I bought a package with a 5600x a b450 motherboard, which I sold it came with 16gb ddr4 3200, and the cream on top was a gigabyte 6800xt gaming oc that had no video out. I got this all for $300 CAD. The 6800XT was still under warranty, so I did an RMA on it, and they sent me back 6800XT Aorus Master because they had no gaming oc replacement. That was my biggest score.

Before you go for a budget build, make sure that the components you select are better for the tasks you give it. 4 core CPUs aren’t great at running simulations or doing workstation tasks.

Back when I was building my current PC when the RTX 30-series were the newest cards, I ordered a RTX 3060 Ti and the seller were actually all out of them and upgraded me to a RTX 3070 for no extra cost

In my place you definitely got scammed they sell you Chinese low quality and damaged GPU with more expensive than brand new genuine GPU even in stores sticks stickers of asus or gigabyte on chinese stuffs
