I’m really glad Elantris was my first Sanderson book and I highly recommend it for those who’ve never read any cosmere. Looking back now compared to the later books it’s definitely not as good but it made me appreciate the later series because I felt like I was watching Sanderson develop as a writer as each series I read after got better and better. My order has been Elantris, Mistborn original trilogy, Emperors Soul, Warbreaker, then Stormlight Archive.

Found you on Goodreads a couple of years ago, and I love your videos! I appreciate your opinions and recommendations very much! Thank you so much for sharing with all of us.

For anyone who would be interested, Brandon has a version of 'Warbreaker' where he annotated the writing process AND development of the book. It is absolutely brilliant; I enjoy peeking into his mind, all the choices and reasoning behind characters, scenes, plot, etc.

I really appreciate that you're not the kind of booktuber that will primarily just focus on the big guns of fantasy. Tbh while I'm not knocking them at all, loads of other channels will often focus on the more popular authors quite a bit.
Thankyou for giving the less know authors some exposure. Your helping these guys get on our TBR, keeping the Libraries afloat and keeping my wallet light! 😂

Great guide! I only started reading Sanderson last year (the Mistborn trilogy) and realized I've been missing out on an amazing author all these years 😭. Now I need to get my hands on all his books.

Thanks for being so unique Petrik! I have only read the Mistborn trilogy and loved it, so this video is a lot of help.

I only discovered Brandon Sanderson last year, and I am now reading Words of Radiance, I also loved The Way of Kings. I don't know how I didn't pick up any of his books earlier!

It is worth pointing out that Sanderson made Warbreaker freely accessible (legally), so if you’re uncertain about spending a lot of money on books, that can be a good starting point (though I am about halfway through and it does seem to be a step down from the best of his work).

In these 12 minutes, Sanderson probably finished a whole book 😂

I came up with my own Reading Order to help newcomers and avoid re-readings so it’s tailored so that you get every connection in one go.

I don’t know where to put White Sand 1-3 either i guess if you have to introduce someone to the reading habit start with the comics, so it’s lighter on them... or not.
If that’s not necessary you can skip this for now, I still have to read 2&3 then I’ll have a more definitive say

Definitely Start with
Mistborn 1 (for all the reasons everyone has already mentioned)
Eleventh Metal (optional)
Mistborn 2 & 3
Elantris
Hope of Elantris (DO read End Notes)
Emperor’s Soul
Mistborn Secret History
(Do NOT read End Notes)
Stormlight Archive 1 & 2
Warbreaker
Edgedancer
Stormlight Archive 3
Dawshard
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell
Stormlight Archive 4
Allomancer Jack (optional)
Wax and Wayne 1-3
Sixth of Dusk

Sanderson is a modern author I haven't read much from. I started with Warbreaker, which I liked, so I don't know why I haven't felt compelled to continue. Everyone loves SA so much that I know I have to get to it! I am going to try again with Mistborn this year, I think. This was a great overview; thanks for making it! :)

I'm wrapping up my read of Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga and plan on starting my Cosmere read in July so this video is great!

Great guide! I started the same way and mistborn was actually my first ever adult fantasy. I then read elantris and alternated between era 2 and stormlight. Warbreaker was last as I couldn't get ahold of a copy. Mistborn is still some of the best adult fantasy I have read years later. But I agree some of Sanderson's best work was actually found in his short stories. Totally need a deeper insight into the world of the emporers soul story!

Thanks for this video! I’m planning on starting reading his Cosmere books this summer and I found this video very helpful. I’ve only read one of his YA books (Skyward)in the past so I’m excited to start his Cosmere adventure!

This was very helpful thank you. I haven't read any Brandon Sanderson yet, but I want to be caught up by the time book 5 of The Stormlight Archive cones out. I'll probably start that early next year or late this year because Malazan, Dresden, and Discworld are currently dominating 2021 for me.
