I don’t get it right the first time, 99% of the time. In fact, I most likely won’t get it right the second time either. The more complex a design, the more iterations it takes to perfect. But the best part is with every iteration I learn something valuable. This new knowledge doesn’t only help with the next iteration of the same project, but all the future projects to come.

For future iterations you can use armature wire and empty white paracord to make a net that looks like it’s made of rope, but shapeable and solid enough to catch the balls.

I’ve used that trick a few times before for bracelets or wire organizers where I want it to look like solid paracord but have the flexibility and hold of wire.

For the chain try adding a tensioner, one that you tighten after adding the chain

you could put the gear on a rail for adjustable tension, or incorporate a system like a bike derailleur to keep constant tension on the chain.

You should have a tensioner for the chain!

Your chain needs an idler sprocket. Just a loose sprocket which is either mounted an a swinging arm or whose shaft is bolted into a slot in the backing bord so you can adjust its position. If a swing arm I recommend tensioning the upper side of the chain so you can just let gravity handle tensioning. If you decide for bottom then you should go with the slot. The slot will be less convenient as it requires direct adjustment to get good but not too high tension, but it saves you from having to make the spring loading mechanism you'd need to make the swing arm design swing upwards into the bottom of the chain loop.

Make a spring loaded tensioner for the chain. Engines use this for timing chains.

You could consider using a French Cleat shape to hang the sculpture on the wall

To me it looked like the angle of the ramp itself wasn’t causing them to stop, but the balls getting caught on the top side of the ramp because they were too close together. Possibly printing the 5 degree ramp caused that gap to widen slightly letting the balls pass through without getting caught.
