I saw this phrase all over the place on Finnish Instagram I follow. That's rather cool if you ask me! Finns are generally depicted as introverts and grumpy, but it looks like you can be quite boisterous when there is a reason to celebrate XD And it's uncanny that in the region of Italy I grew up in we have a similar saying: "ci vediamo in piazza", literally "see you in the market square". It is both something to say at New Year's Eve to say that you will take part in the town celebration and fireworks or whenever there is something to celebrate, like Italy winning the Fifa world cup (well, at least it was, before the earthquake) and among the youngsters, it meant that you'd meet sooner or later during Saturday afternoon/evening strolls, since the city centre is so small everyone must eventually find his way there.

It's essentially the go-to phrase for people who want to comment some funny thing under a Finland-related video, but they want to abstain from the usual "saatana" "perkele" "vittu" or "jumalauta"

The expression originates form 1996. In 1995 Finland won the Ice Hockey world championship for the first time. After that there were huge celebrations with the team in the Kauppatori n Helsinki. In 1996 the slogan of the team was "Tavataan torilla" - well it did not happen but the slogan remained transferring to "Torilla tavataan".
