We've set up a Cambridge Audio Phono Preamp Face-Off this week in our Real World Reviews. It's old vs new as we put the new Alva Duo phono preamp up against its predecessor, the Azure 651P.

Both preamps are compatible with moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. They each offer a high-value entry into the dual-mode phono preamp. There's a lot of bang for your buck with whichever you choose to use.

You can turn off the auto power down function on the Alva Duo. From the manual: "If you wish to disable the APD function, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds when in standby. This can then be reset to factory defaults by plugging in the mains lead with the standby button held down."

Thanks for sharing! Does the volume knob allows you also to "level" the signal output of the turntable to the CD player, when connecting the device to an integrated stereo amp?

After spending some time with the Duo, what's your thoughts on it now? I've been considering it.
