4th party logistics is confusing. First party will be the vendor and 2nd party will be the customer or buyer. 3rd party is when another company performs services in between the buyer and vendor, say a physical distribution company to deliver to the buyer. In a case where the physical distribution company uses say another company, say a trucking company to perform it PD duties, then that trucking company is a 4th party in the perspective of the vendor.
