Very good video. Thank you for the information.

It took me 2-3 hours, but it was worth it. I got mine used, and I'm not sure the fans were cleared out, because it was always running hot. I cleaned the fans all out, only the fans, and the temps dropped dramatically. I am going to replace the thermal paste, which I haven't done yet, so I am excited for that to get here
Edit: it dropped the temps about 4 degrees C less, although sometimes it's more like 3 or 2 less, but idk why... Either way, it doesn't thermal throttle, and that's the important part :D

Thanks! 1 year after a repaste using this video tutorial, and my g7 is still going strong. The thermals are starting to creep up again, which is probably due to dust buildup. Since it's now almost a 4 year old machine, I feel compelled to experiment on it. Thinking this would be a good Conductonaut liquid metal test machine. Thanks again!

Definetly got to do this. I'm at 100c playing AC: Origins

Thank you so much for the video, dude. My G7 has been heating up so much for some months now, and even doing basic things like internet browsing and playing videos seems to be a bit slow on this machine. I was thinking of a repaste, and I found your video, it is such a godsend. I do have a question, how long did it take you to do all this? Do I need a few hours or the whole day?

Kyronaut is the best. IC diamond is a good one too. recommend replacing thermal pads on the cooler before reassembly, but its not necessary for 1 time removal. They loose their structure if moved too much. Measure the originals with a micrometer and order a few to keep them on hand if you plan on a chassis clean/repaste schedule over the years

I’ve been virtually unable to play any 3d games for years now due to this model’s shite cooling system. Planning on trying this soon. Thanks for the upload!

What about thermal pad? Heard you can leave it there for rest of your life and is quite close to liquid metal 🤔 and without the scariness of frying your mobo.. is it suitable for this laptop?

@Laptop Performance Tricks  Got it👌🏼😊😊😊 Thanks so much!

I was experimenting with repasting last night, for the first time in 3 years for my laptop (I am quite familiar with opening up laptops). After watching several repasting videos, and following the instructions, I repasted it with cooler master thermal paste (cheapest I could find as I didn't think it mattered).

I was excited to get even lower temperatures after this. But to my horror, the temperatures started to spike up to 90 deg C within seconds of turning on a game and made my system crash.

I thought that I did something wrong. So I cleaned everything up and repasted again. Making sure it's done well. Still same results. I gave up after 4 repasting attempts.

What do you think is the most likely cause of this?

Could it be that the thermal paste I'm using is so much inferior to the original one?

I tried Google and there didn't seem to be any clear answer. Hope you can give me some guidance. Feeling quite sad as I shouldn't have touched what's not broken. 🤦‍♂️

My next step would be to try get a better performing paste eg liquid metal and try that. Knowing well that it is conductive and must be applied very carefully.🤔 Or should I use another safer product?

Can you tell the thickness of the thermal pads? My g7 is now 3 years old and haven’t changed the thermal paste and pad since I got it. It would be a great help to know exact thickness so I could arrange it before disassembly.

How easy or hard do you think for a newbie to disassemble the G7? I have never disassembled a laptop before, not fully anyway, I tried to disassemble one of my old laptops but only went halfway because I dunno what else to do.

I have problem with temperature and Droping FPS(from 60FPS to 20-25FPS when i play more than 15 minutes), I think they are related. i use my G7 7588 (i7-8750h 1060 max -Q) for 3 years and never changed the thermal paste. Do u think thermal paste is my main problem. I dont really know what to do right now :((, can u give me a solution.

Not really sure what I did wrong but now my g7 will turn on, fans full blast with no display lit up and will shut off after about 30 seconds. It'll turn back on then the power button will turn off but it'll still be running.

My G7 is having thermal throttling while playing, I have never changed the thermal paste before I have to do it now but I'm afraid because everybody says this laptop is very hard to disassembly.

Can I apply liquid metal on CPU and witch one should I use?

The problem with your conclusion is that it is impossible to tell how much of the benefit was from the repaste and how much was from cleaning all the dust and gunk out of the cooler.
