Experts are searching for a missing submersible in the area where noises have been heard beneath the surface, the US Coast Guard confirmed.

Captain Jamie Frederick told reporters in Boston on Wednesday the cause of the noises in the North Atlantic was still unconfirmed but insisted the efforts to find the five missing people aboard the Titan was still “a rescue mission”.

The vessel lost communication with tour operators on Sunday while about 435 miles south of St John’s, Newfoundland, during a voyage to the Titanic shipwreck off the coast of Canada.

The 6.7m (22ft)-long OceanGate Expeditions vessel, which has British billionaire adventurer Hamish Harding on board, may have less than 20 hours of oxygen left.

Five people, including a British billionaire, are currently onboard a trapped tourist vessel that went missing during a trip to the Titanic wreckage under the sea.

There is a major rescue operation underway to find the submersible Titan, with experts working around the clock to locate its whereabouts.

The Titanic shipwreck can be found just off the coast of Canada, and the sub is said to have lost communication with the Oceangate tour operators on Sunday, June 18 while about 435 miles south of St John’s, Newfoundland.

Five people are on board, including British businessman Hamish Harding, with the group paying close to £200k each for the experience.

The others on board are Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman and OceanGate’s chief executive and founder Stockton Rush, reportedly together with French submersible pilot Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

From the bottom of my heart, I hope they are safe and will be rescued soon. But my mind tells that most of the accidents like this in human history at least until now, not a single case has been successfully rescued.❤

Even if they find then, there’s no way there getting them back up in time. Probably already dead.

Even if it floated to the surface, it can only be opened from the outside.

I cant get over the lack of back up plans. Apparently even if they are on the surface the are sealed in from the outside. So they cannot get air even if they are not underwater. Also i would think there would be a plan in an emergency to make the thing buoyant. Like military submarines emergency surfacing. Such a tragedy and from some reports an avoidable one.

How awful, these people are trapped whith no air, they are millionaire's but their money counts for nothing at the bottom of the ocean, they were breathing free air on land, now their millions can't buy them a breath.

in like 10 hours time, it won't be a rescue mission any more; it'll be a recovery mission.

In the case they do survive, that CEO wouldn’t be breathing anymore . His greed made him insanely careless and he is 100% to blame

The most incredible thing about this so far is the amount of people in the comments who can't spell Dolphin

You would think they would have emergency balloons to raise them up in cases like this. Almost makes you wonder if someone sabatoged them. There’s alot of rich people on there

Why are the Coast Guard looking for these people and not the Navy seal?

Don't let this distract you from the fact that if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

They were all stupid enough to go down in that death trap so I don’t feel for them…

This quite possibly and unfortunetly might end up just being another lesson learned the hard way for us humans.. just like titanic itself and b2 bombers. There is a sacrifice made for improvement of our safety equipment and as sad as it is these men can end up being just a peace of history. I advice people to pray and have strong faith.

Can’t help but to think how these resources and money could be put to better use… feeding the hungry, funding programs to help troubled youth ect… but all this money is being used to search for 5 millionaires/ billionaires who got into a home made metal tube voluntarily and even if they are found alive (which would be a miracle in itself). They are so deep in the ocean that the pressure wouldn’t allow for a rescue mission, but it’s a nice spectacle they are making out of it.
