MCTS bus driver finds lost kids, helps them get home

She didn't have to stop - but an alert Milwaukee County bus driver says she's glad she did.

Jeannie Mitchell was on her route on Milwaukee's north side when she came across two young kids walking by themselves near Hopkins and Fairmount.

Right away, the driver says she knew something was wrong.

"I knew something was wrong...They pointed in every direction, that was a cue that they were lost."

The children were later safely reunited with family.

They haven’t been in contact?! If those were my kids, I’d be showing up at her stop with flowers and a gift basket and wrapping her in a hug! I know it’s her job to take people where they need to go, but some drivers would be more concerned with making their timely stops than to keep an eye out for a serious moments like this. She’s blessed with a good heart.

Can you imagine being that babysitter? I want to say why weren't they paying attention but I also understand that life happens and that anything can catch your attention and distract you at just the wrong moment. For all we know another kid could have been hurt or they could have turned to talk to another parent for a second. It doesnt take long for a kid to disappear from sight
But the panic they must have felt when they realized they were gone and could litterally be anywhere. It my greatest fear, being someone who babysits a fair amount.

You don't have to have motherly instincts to obviously see that a toddler and a five year old walking the street is not alright by themselves without an adult or much older child; you need to be observant and caring enough. Shameful that the simply-minded parents did not give a big THANK YOU and a HUG to the Bus Driver.
