Determine the intervals when a function is increasing decreasing or constant

👉 Learn how to determine increasing of decreasing intervals of function. There are many ways in which we can determine whether a function is increasing or decreasing but we will focus on determining increasing/decreasing from the graph of the function. A function is increasing when the graph of the function rises from left to right and is decreasing when the graph of the function falls from left to right. A function is constant when the graph of the function neither rises or falls from left to right. i.e. the graph of a constant function is a horizontal line.

Quick question Mr. McLogan, first off thank you for this information. It helped a ton on my homework. Also, the first interval that you gave "Decreasing:" I believe the answer was right but on your graph you have that point labeled as (-1, 1). Shouldn't that point be (-2, 1)? Just making sure that I'm understanding it correctly. Thank you though for the excellent video. Your comments would definitely help out. Thanks.

omg thank u so much!!! U helped me understand this lesson in 10 min while I can't understand her way of "teaching" in like a whole week... so much for a teacher.. i have a quiz tmw and me being the person i m crammed this all night (promised myself not to do this again cuz i suck at math) but this helped me soo much ... thx!!! ;D
