He died taking a bullet for one of his men. He kept his promise.

th8s battle is one of my favorites of all time and shows that we are all still human and that all Germans during ww2 weren't bad people (also don't forget that not all allied soldiers are good people either there are many who committed war crimes like murdering pows).

I mean, shes not wrong, a unit of American soldiers, a unit of German defectors, 1 lone SS defector, multiple former French politicians including 2 prime ministers, former military figures and a french tennis star vs a SS division fighting over a German castle.

If you ask me and apparently many others, it is one of if not the strangest battle of the war.
