This is my Used Car Buyer Guide and Review for those who are looking at buying one of these used 2015-2019 Hyundai Genesis vehicles at a very attractive price. Be prepared for possible issues and mechanical problems with it.

I owned this car from new, got it fresh from dealership in July 2016. That's when this love hate relationship has started for me.

Don't get me wrong, the car is great 100% of the time every 80% when it works! Specifically 2015-16 models got hit the worst in this lineup since they were forgotten by Genesis and given up on by Hyundai. My car spends on average 2-3 straight months at dealerships every year and since I got screwed by Hyundai and Genesis split up, nobody wants to service it, since Genesis says its a Hyundai car and Hyundai dealerships say its a Genesis car. Even if you bring your it to Genesis, its still being services at Hyundai workshop, yet, somehow they treat it differently and may even charge you to perform diagnostics. RIDICULOUS is all I can say. I bet $20,000 Elantra is
getting better care than $70,000 Genesis, and the worst part for owners like me - we are stuck with it as it lost its value immediately when they announced the split.

My suggestion is, don't be tempted by low prices of 2015-2016 models, go for 2017 plus!

Nevertheless, the issues are the same on the entire lineup of 2015-2019 models. I hope this video will help you to pick the right car and save a few bucks!

Some of the issues I had since new:

2016 Genesis 3.8L Technology package:

- Since new - doors are not closing well.
- 1000kms - Wheel Alignment.
- 3,000kms - Original wiper blades failed.
- 5000kms - Replaced both mirrors motors.
- 15,000kms Replaced both side pillars
- 15,000kms - Genesis logo fell off from the driver side carpet.
- 18,000kms - Driver seat got loose.
- 20,000kms - Drive shaft, aka propeller shaft, issues started.
- 22,0000kms - Sunroof rubber seal torn off.
- 30,000kms - Handle illumination failed on the driver side.

This year I got so fed up with it, so I ended up selling it for $22,000CAD while my outstanding financing was still at $34,000CAD. Yes, I took a loss as I could not handle it anymore. I think if the proper service was in place, I would still keep it, but, I am strong believer that great car starts from great service.

I spent almost 2 weeks of my free time working on this video and putting it together, yet, someone just messaged me with this: "So you are just bashing the car" 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
Even in the video, I said that all my videos are about user experience with things, and this video is about showing people the issues to look at if they consider buying, because these cars depreciate a lot and someone might be spending the last buck on it without realizing that there are "Easter Eggs" that come with it! This is not TopGear to tell you how great cars are, my content is not paid and I give honest review of my personal experience, and as owner of this car for 4 years, I had a lot of experience, too much more than I wanted 😀
So if you are owner of one of these and feel like I'm bashing it and it upsets you because you are driving it too, just relax and keep in mind that at least I am not drawing rainbow picture for you like the Hyundai Genesis before you buy it🤓

Finished the video now. Thanks for sharing and pointing out possible problems. As said, my 2016 is near perfect and I love it. My dealership and Service Advisor are the best!

I've owned mine since 2016 and haven't had any of these faults in 7 years. No faults at all.

I appreciate your honest review of Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80. I too, owned a 2015 Genesis (purchased in late 2014), and I drove it for five years. As the car approached the end of the warranty period, there were some problems. When placing the car in Park, there was sometimes a jerk in the transmission--never duplicated or resolved at the dealership. The rear window shade kept getting stuck. The front end developed a shimmy, that new tires and a front end alignment failed to resolve. When they aligned the front end, they left the steering wheel offset by about 2", which annoyed me and I took it back and made them re-center the steering wheel. The windshield washer motor suddenly stopped working. I had many, many, problems with the dealership itself. For example, they were completely unable to rotate the tires WITHOUT scratching or scuffing the beautiful wheels! Once they scuffed a wheel so badly, I made them have the wheel sent off for refinishing. They would leave dirty/greasy hand prints in the interior. In the fifth year of ownership, the car was rear-ended and written off. I bought a 2019 Genesis G80 with the sport trim. There were problems right away with the copper-toned trim around the windows--they eventually buffed the copper treatment off, but they made a sloppy job of it, especially around the mirrors. Again, the rear window shade gets stuck occasionally. Upon starting the car, the navigation traffic system continually flashes a message that a "Subscription is Required, " even though I have subscribed. Also, there is the same issue when placing the car in Park--sometimes there is a slight jerk with the rear wheels. Build quality on the 2019 vs. the 2015 models is noticeably poorer. Panels in the doors/dash do not line up, the cabin has squeaks and groans that the 2015 model did not have, especially in the dash and around the sunroof, the driver's window has a rushing wind noise due to incorrectly aligned trim. The dealership informed me the wind noise was "normal." I will NOT be purchasing another Hyundai or Genesis product because of the issues with the cars and the dealership. I don't believe maintenance staff at the dealership have received enough training. Although these cars are considered "bargains, " because of the level of equipment vs. price, in the end, you get what you pay for.

Very helpful video. 2019 g80 about 21k miles. At the dealership now for the driveshaft replacement. Hopefully it’s fixed. Fingers crossed. They had me buy new tires before they address the driveshaft vibration issue.

2015 Hyundia Genesis sedan 68, 000 miles. Just regular maintenance! I guess I got lucky too. I love the car.

Thank you for this, exceptionally helpful as I was sorely tempted to pick up a 2015. Now, no way.

Thanks Roman. I enjoyed your review and it was enough to put me off buying a used Genesis G80 which I was considering in the near future. Looks like I will be getting a Lexus E350 as my next car. I cannot say I have had your experience with the stealerships as I rarely deal with them. Like you, I driving luxury cars and change them every few years or so. Unlike you I never buy them new so I have different expectations. Previously I have owned a 2012 Genesis and two Azera's before that and have to say overall they were great cars without any major issues. I can identify with your experience with squeeks and rattles and a problem with quality finish shortcomings. Although I enjoyed all 3 cars I would say they were closer to a Camry or Accord then they were to a luxury car like a Mercedes or a Lexus. I have also owned a Lexus SC430, LS400 and now currently my LS430 which I don't know if I will ever be able to sell. I think it is quite likely the best lexus they ever made and I will have a hard time getting anything better made. I can say that I never had any problems or complaints with any of the 3 lexus' with the exception of regular maintenance items that come with every car.

I think Genesis better get it's game on if it wants to compete with the luxury brands and a lot of it has to do with the dealership experience.

My car is pulling to the left and riding harshly over the littlest imperfections on the road. I changed tires, multiple alignments but nothing has worked so far. As usual Hyundai dealerships are no help.

Car was so planted and controlled when I first bought it, drove straight as an arrow.

Any good shops in GTA or Toronto that work on G80s? I'm pretty much at my wits end with the mechanics at Hyundai.

I've never heard of so many issues from the same car. Bruh, you got a Lemon.

Thank you for the informative and honest video. Do you have any thoughts on the 2018 G80 5.0 AWD? I have the opportunity to get one used with under 20k miles with a clean carfax but this video has completely changed my mind.

my 2015 Genesis lost batteries due to connection issues. After visiting dealer for 5 time and they couldn't duplicate it. I found it is the positive terminal was loss in cold weather. Replaced it for 250 in dealer

Thanks for your video. I was really considering a g90 and to lesser extent g80. But videos like yours and others have scared me away from the brand. Coming from Infiniti, I don't have too many reliability issues, I'm just kinda bored with Infiniti. But at this stage in life I definitely don't want to go down this genesis road with quality problems. Plus too many people have complained of the service departments, and long weight times etc
