Our Dad had a "shepherd's sling" in the machine shed.. He showed us how to properly hold the leather straps and load the rock in the leather pouch, and swing it and letting go of the plain strap.. We never got to the point of "target" practice, but we made many small rocks disappear to the far side of the field!!

Shepherds sling is connected to a staff for extra leverage, this is just a stone sling

One of the most powerful and useful weapons for the majority of human history. Not just a civilian/farmer's weapon, several ancient armies fielded entire units made up of sling-users or 'peltasts' prior to the invention of the bow, and even for a few centuries after. Ammo is cheap, weapon is cheap, and everyone back then knew how to use them because most people trained with them in childhood. Even today, you can hunt just about anything if you're good with the sling.

One of the oldest weapons in the world. The armies of the ancient Persians used to contain thousands of slingers, which they used to soften up phalanxes of infantry at a distance before a head-on charge.

That’s awesome. I’m practicing aiming at my neighbors house! I’m getting really good I’ve taken out 5 windows now!

When you realize the story of David and Goliath is essentially a tale of someone bringing a gun to a sword fight.

I wasted 4 hours of my life scrolling before I got to this clip...the previous 4 hours is still wasted, but this minute made it worthwhile.

This is awesome, Andrew. Glad someone actually took the time to demonstrate! Thank you!

I made one of these a few years ago when I stayed in the woods for a couple months to get my mind right. I got pretty accurate with it. I could cut specific leaves or small limbs out of trees from about 10-15 yards. I still have it somewhere. I need to dig it back out and get back in practice with it. It would be pretty useful to keep critters out of my garden and get dinner at the same time

We used to make them out the tongues and laces of our chuck Taylor's when we were kids.

In practiced hands that weapon is still as deadly today as it was a few thousand years ago.
Rocks still kill.

I made one of these last year, I love it, nothing like an elastic slingshot, but the power generated by these, the range is incredible.

This is exactly how david took down goliath

This is a weapon that takes a lot of practice to refine your technique to be successful with it.

I made one of these slings as a kid at my grandparents; managed to get fairly accurate enough to hit a soda can from about 20 or so yards. Marbles work well, but ideally just any ball shaped rock will do 😎

Remember: the stone didn’t kill Goliath, but it did even the odds. You still have to kill them with their own sword to get the combo breaker. 😂
