If Ranbir Kapoor had given the same performance he would have got Best Actor trophies and appreciation from the audience, but Avinash's performance went unnoticed because he is an outsider.

When I suggested this movie to my closed ones. Some of them were literally amazed and were in shock to see such a masterpiece. They couldn't stop their tears; however, some of them said " Majnu pagal hogya and dukhi hokr Laila bhi mar gyi". And it was the most shallow summary I have ever got for this movie. Trust me guys, this movie is Way ahead of its time. The concept is just astonishing. This movie is not a love story. It's a spiritual journey of a guy who is, purely, in love with a girl. And when both of them seperate, he gets diagnosed with clinical depression because the seperation for him is traumatic. Through depression, he walks on his spiritual journey. When the pain pierces his whole heart deeply, and waiting seems like a hopelessness, he creates everything in his mind. He stops waiting and becomes happy with his imagination. His love transcends over the time and emerge as a love for God and everything in the universe as he starts to see Laila in everything. For him, everything starts making sense because everywhere is Laila whether in leaves or mountains. His love for Laila brings god to him. In the end, he says laila as laa-illah. And Laila doesn't die because she is sad for majnu or something. She knows that Majnu has found god and there is no way to go back that's why she decides to end her life. In the end she says " kuch kharab nhi hua hai bss vo mjhse aage nikal gya hai". Because she knows that her physical body is of no use to her and Majnu. And they can only meet in heaven now. Therefore, she kills herself. In the end, oo meri Laila song says " yha pe bhi tu huro se jayada haseen, yaani dono jahano mei tumsa nhi ". And it makes so much sense now. Trust me, in deep love, this happens. Only intelligent or emotional people can go beyond their minds and can find god.

The kashmiri verse used here ( chorus sung in children's voice) was originally written by Lalleshwari who was greatest author of kashmiri poetry and a great saint of Shaivism ( worshipping Lord shiva).The meaning is

It feels like my mind is bathing in the water of divine love (Bhruman = nerve center in the human brain, poyun = water)
Tekis Takya bane Tyuk = Then I know I am like that sandal wood which is pasted for divine fragrance symbolic of universal divinity. I realize that I am, indeed, divine (Tyuk = Tika applied on the forehead)

Sadly, they have used this but not given credits to her. But atleast thanks to them to include such a great poem.

It really boils my blood to see Avinash, such a brilliant actor, this underrated. His performance in this film really give me chills, every time I catch the glimpse of it. Really sad, that Indian Audience failed to understand such gem of a film and actors!

There is a multilayer symbolism of Layla & Majnun. The Majnun represents the soul in search of its source, and Layla symbolically represents God, the state of reaching fanaa' where the drop merges with the ocean and in the process the drop becomes ocean, and the ocean becomes the drop there is no greater force that could potentially separate the drop and ocean thereafter.
This is beautifully elaborated Mevlana Jalāluddin Rumi's magnificent work.
