Very helpful commentary on single vs double axle trailers. Having a GMC Starcraft conversion van with 5.7 litre engine & tow package, I’ve found no need for a trailer (despite having a popup and a 29 ft. Forest River travel trailer in the past). If I were to buy a trailer, however, it would be from among the choice of: Casita, Scamp, Oliver or the R Pod 190. I find that when you get serious about travel, you really don’t need half of what folks tout as “absolutely the minimum for camping”. Thanks again for the informative video.

It would be nice if you compare single and double axle of the same size like both being 17' trailers.

Dual axle trailers track better with less swaying.

I don't see a video on WDH. I have a Hensley Cub and wondering what hitches you compared.

Every time I tow my boat on a single axle trailer, I'm always looking in my mirrors to make sure it's towing straight and true. When towing my travel trailer with double axles, I still watch in the mirrors but I did have a blow out on one of the four tires and didn't even notice it. Another motorist pulled up on the side of us to warn us. I have since added the Tire Minder system to the travel trailer tires.

Cheap crappy trailers most of them built in Indiana and delivered for peanuts and then dealers act like they have Bentleys for sale

If you have a travel trailer with a double axle, and one tire goes flat or blows out, Can the travel trailer keep going so that you can safely get off the highway or with one flat tire do you have to pull over immediately to fix the flat?

Great video.
Any chance you can "un-private" the other how-to vodeos on this playlist?

Next time compare two units same length. Single vs double on 20 footer, etc.

The title caught my eye as I pull a small 3000 lb TT with a half ton Nissan frontier rated at 6400 lbs. I am concerned being single axle that if I have a blow out it might greatly effect the characteristics of the trailer versus a double axle. I am not using a weight distribution hitch as I am not experiencing any major sway or control issues. Question: if I have a blown out tire will a WDH helps control the trailer so I can slow down quicker?? Thanks

I was looking for industry insight not 4+ minutes to state the obvious.

They have single axels because they do not weigh enough to justify two axels. It is just that simple.

im looking at two lite trailers(new).. similar trailers at 20ft...3800lbs and 4100lbs...pulling with half ton 4x4...….the one I really want (BH) is one axle...The other is dual tabdem but not a BH, but still think the dual tandem is more stable, more tires on each side seems safer if a flat occurs? more brakes? …. but also little more weight and more maintenance…safety is priority though……...opinions pleasethank you

I would never have a single axle on an RV. You lose one tire and you could lose your trailer. I might do it with a cargo trailer if there wasn't anything important in it. Just not worth it IMO.

I know this is a older video but could you answer this? Are you better with a double axle so you have an extra set of wheel in case you have a tire blow out at a higher speed so you do not flip your trailer???

I'm not convinced that weight distribution systems control sway and are of any advantage. still have to turn.

I have a 2018 f150 that can tow up to 7600lbs. We want to buy a a travel trailer that weighs 4500lbs dry weight. Does that seem like a safe buy?
