In this week's science news we’ll talk about Trouble at ITER, robots that build robots, air pollution, AI that classifies supernovae, a small asteroid that hit Canada, Super GPS, a new supercomputer simulation of the sun, a quantum thermometer. And of course, the telephone will ring.

Correction: Lake Ontario is of course in South-East Canada (and not South-West).

Always interesting. How does leaking helium cause corrosion? I thought it was inert.

"This is a cute paper - by which I mean I wish I thought of it first", is a great line, I wish I thought of it first.

One time I watched a surgeon remove a lymph node from my groin. I could tell from his expression he thought it was ugly. I thought it was ugly. it was swollen rubbery and a sullen yellowish color. Tested positive for Lymphoma. :( Nine years later I'm still here!

the best part about these episodes is that I can take twenty minutes in my daily travel and gain a whole bunch of random science things to annoy my friends with

So, instead of 30 years, now fusion is 40 years away. Ok, no problem, we'll get used to the new saying.

When you said that the meteor hit southwest Canada, I was thinking the west coast of British Columbia. Lake Ontario is in what is commonly referred to as central Canada (some would say it was in the eastern part of the country).

I love your work, and I love describing Ontario as "southwest Canada" lol.

Maybe we can make robots who can build sculptures for prime ministers at a vastly lower cost to the taxpayer. Or even better, robots that can build a competent prime minister.

10:12 "I wont explain it because I dont understand it". Finally, clear, honest science reporting.

I was just watching the 2017 documentary about ITER called "Let There be Light" on Amazon Prime and in the building process they show a scientist dismissing cracks during the building process, saying "I don't think they have any mechanical implications", jokingly rubbing his finger over the cracks saying, "I'm curing them." The problem with an international government project like this is no one wants to take responsibility. It's amazing anything gets done at all.

"And of course.... the telephone will ring" 😂I swear Sabine's so forward and rational that she actually has a great sense of humor that shines through with her bluntness.
