Comparing Pakistan and India is total BS. There is a reason Islamic countries by and large don't have democracy. They believe in saviors and that's why you see larger than life leaders (Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Imran Khan, Yaseer Arafat etc). Indians ( Hindus) are inherently democratic that's why they accept people of all faiths. I would have been ok with Subhash Chandra Bose ji taking reigns for a while. You need strong hands when you get independence. Nehru ji was tiptoeing west interest for most part. We could have achieved so much. Best would have been Sardar Patel ji.

Always felt think school is shallow and attempts to be politically correct. Post independence, India is one inspite of Congress and not due to. Much has been said and written about Nehruvian blunders.

There are many things that congress could have done while "keeping the country intact" ...

If congress was not in power, We could have had whole Kashmir, UN permanent seat, Arunachal Pradesh, Coco Island... We could have had earlier liberalisation as opposed to the one in 1991 which was mainly due to the conditions put by IMF to provide loan, we could have had strong border infrastructure as opposed to the statement from the minister in parliament that a stronger border infra can make china angry....



And mind you, many of this things had nothing to do with internal conditions of india back then.... For example, Kashmir.. then coco Island which was "gifted" to Myanmar.. UN permanent seat, offered twice to India under the Nehru's period... But he denied it..

Arunachal Pradesh's lost area: Nehru denied the airforce to operate so that we don't look "aggressive" to the world ....

Early Liberalisation in phased manner as instead of rigid socialist policy...

And for Border infra thing, the congress minister literally said that good infra can make china upset... It means that there were sufficient funds to atleast start with, but there were not intentions...

And for all these 65 years, was congress only keeping the country intact???? Bcz there were no bank accounts, no centralised identity, no toilets, no electricity to villeges, least road infra to villeges, only 3 or 5 cities with Metro connectivity that too only 200kms in total... !!!? Was this so hard to keep the nation intect that they could even do that part well in 65 years!!
