I used Solvol Autosol from Halfords . Its pretty good stuff . did not appear to leave scratches. I guess old school Jewlers Rouge would work as well although its really messy stuff.

I use a liquid Brasso and it does the job fine on an antique silver plate bowl etc.

7:55 see the white build-up in the cracks? That's actually old silver polish, someone did not wipe away properly. Make sure you wipe thoroughly. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I tend to use Goddards in liquid form, which you can buy for silver or brass at Wilkinsons.Great videos buy the way.

I tried what you recommended / metal plate with hot water and baking soda--it removed all the tarnish but also damaged the tea set and now the silver plating is all coming off it is a quadruple plate looks like trash now

This is the worst thing you can do to silver. Pastes contain micro particles that remove tarnish and silver as well. Silvo is a wadding based cleaner that is impregnated with a liquid cleaner. Goddard paste gets into crevices and is impossible to remove.

Thank you so much for the video it really helped a lot! I am new to all of this so I am trying to learn as much as I can. If you use a sliver plated tea set a few times a week, do you recommend polishing it after every use? Or just gently cleaning it? Thanks so much!

The lady at the antique shop said that the top might be a different kind of metal then the base of the ice bucket and there’s a like mercury glass layer inside and that she has it like an attached glass bowl on the inside that does not come out and it has a little piece that holds the lid on so when you lift it to get ice it just all goes it once the handle in the lid it all stays together it’s really neat but I was hoping I could get it looking more like silver but I never heard of GOL Lee or Cole silver before so I’m assuming that’s a different name for pleaded?
Just wondering what product to use on something like this.

What about plated? Options for. I have 1950s hinged connected top ice 🧊 bucket.🥃 it’s already scratched and dark…. 🖤 I want to see how much I could get it to shine ✨just use brassO? I was wondering if you had tips for older pieces. What do do if there scratches? What you don’t suggest?! I saw salt 🧂 umm 🤔 taht would scratch AF.

Wiping with a cloth will leave polish in the recessed areas.

I don't quite understand what you said about the smaller piece that is plated silver. How did you clean that - wasn't clear! I have lots of plated and I am scared to clean them?

Thank you for your video! Do you have any recommendations for polishing/cleaning gold plated flatware?

This is great. I just got a pair of sterling silver C J Vance Ltd candle holders which I found were made in London in 1967. They need one heck of a good cleaning and I would have used silvo before I saw this video. Anyone know how to determine the value of these candle holders (not just scrap silver content value)? They weigh about 8.5 Troy Ounces each.

Ok but how do you get rid of the small scratches on plated items? I have a piece that was in a fire and a piece someone cleaned with a steal wool.
Also what is the name of the stuff you used?
