If a character who is suppose to be likable become dislikable then it's the fault of the writer. They wrap up stuff too quickly and throw it to the back burner then bring it back like "hey, you've been waiting for this" and I'm here like "bruh, this ain't cooked..."

Goh needs to earn his wins and weather some losses.

Ash has frustrated me no end, heck the show constantly squanders its potential imo- but you can’t say that about Ash, at least not in the show. He loses hard, he wins big, sometimes he’s lucky and sometimes he’s unlucky. That’s why we relate to him. Goh doesn’t struggle, and that rubs everyone the wrong way.

Think about this for a second. A legendary pokemon like Suicune is an extremely rare pokemon to find (and even harder to catch) with some people like Eusine spending years or even decades of their lives trying to find this Pokemon. There have been trainers who have caught legendary pokemon in the anime, but they are all elite trainers like Brandon of the Battle Frontier or Tobias, who won the Sinnoh league and probably other leagues outside of that. Goh is a rather new trainer who started at the beginning of Journeys, and he catches Suicune with no effort whatsoever. When he does catch suicune, he is not shocked by the fact that he just caught one of the rarest pokemon in existence. He treats it like any other capture.

The reason why Ash got his unique Ash Greninja is he truly bonds with every Pokemon he caught, he bonds with every person he tag along and met, he makes us relate to his downfalls and rise. He doesn't overshadow his friends.

Why Goh is hated? Simple, they turn Goh into a Gary Sue and made Ash a side character who’s plot line in journeys been skipped around a lot.
