We are all admirers of Xulfi - and I've had a very deep admiration for everything he's done from the early days of Nescafe Basement. He is truly gifted and has produced masterpieces with Call the Band, Nescafe Basement and now several with Coke Studio 14.
This is why (because he is so gifted) I have hard questions for him regarding CS Season 14, questions that no one seems to ask him, because we seem so star-struck :
1. Why the embrace of rap/hip-hop at the expense of our own traditions? And saying that everyone young is listening to it is not an answer ... People can listen to anything they like :)
2. Why the complete disappearance of kalam and Sufi songs? Those are our very identity. Rap and hip-hop are not (although they can be worked well into our songs like in Sajan Na Das, or the ones by Bohemia)
3. Why the capitulation to the short songs format dictated by Spotify algorithms?
I've kept my questions to just 3 - there are several more really disturbing aspects to Season 14 that I haven't gone into ...
