Russia Holds Joint Naval Drill With Iran and China

Russia, Iran and China on Friday began a joint naval drill in the Indian Ocean aimed at boosting security at sea.
Russia sent a Pacific Fleet unit, comprising the Varyag missile cruiser, the Admiral Tributs destroyer, and the Boris Butoma tanker.
Russia's Ministry of Defence said 14 ships took part, including 3 Russian ones.
Iran said 11 of the country's vessels took part, and that the Revolutionary Guard was also participating with smaller ships and helicopters.
China sent two ships to take part in the exercises.
According to Iran state TV, the drills covered some 17,000 square kilometres (6,500 square miles) in the northern part of the ocean.
It involved night fighting, rescue operations and firefighting drills, it added.
It is the third time the three countries hold joint naval exercises since 2019.
Tehran has sought to step up military cooperation with Beijing and Moscow amid regional tensions with the United States.
Visits to Iran by Russian and Chinese naval representatives have also increased in recent years.
