I gotta admit when I first started watching this show I actually felt bad for the way Sheldon always laid into Howard and his profession. But then I came to realise what an absolute jerk Howard was and saw how he actually deserved it. Difference is, Howard knew what a jerk he was but Sheldon didn't realise when he was being a jerk.. Makes Howard the bigger jerk.

It's not just Sheldon though... Almost everyone mocks Howard's lack of a doctorate, including his mother. Sometimes they mock his career by referring to his "space toilet". At that point I just concluded that the writers themselves mock engineers, and this backstory that Howard supposedly started it is just an excuse

howard has been insulting people all the time. his mother, raj, sheldon. while the only one who insults howard is sheldon, extensively on his career. I mean.. howard's characyer kinda creeps me out. I felt this rush of satisfaction everytime someone stood up to him. penny, sheldon, bernadette, raj. it's just so satisfying seeing them stood up to the person who constantly insults people and can control it, but chose not to. sheldon can't recognize emotions unless he was told. he shows the characteristics of asperger's. he can't recognize emotions even if he tried. Howard on the other hand, he's normal. he can control what he says and thinks, he just choose not to.

Sheldon, Howard, even Penny and Amy had their deals of childish antics, insults and self centeredness but Sheldon meeting his 3 sets of matches Howard, Penny and especially Amy was the best thing that's ever happened to him.
