When i was a little boy, i wanted to be a football player and Zidane was my hero, in some way, even my model. The years passed, i served my country in air force, go to college and now i'm an academic that research public policies for welfare state. I like what i do, but sometimes i feel sad because people are so confused and ignorant about everything. When i feel sad with the world, i come back to my child dream and remenber my football hero, Zinedine Zidane. This always makes me feel better.

I grew up watching football in Africa, which is the sports everyone watch. But I only pay attention about it when I watched zinedine zidane played. Since his retirement I stopped watching football because there is nothing to watch again. He took the passion I have with him . The only player who doesn't have to score to be relevant. ZIZOU. MERCI

I'm not a footballer, but I can see greatness, such natural talent, so graceful with the ball. That headbutt only makes him an even bigger legend. His emotions truly rounds him out as a human being, the fire within.

To this day every time I see a video of this brilliant man I get wet eyes. I only had privilege of watching him for last 3 seasons of his career but to me those were the 3 greatest seasons I have even watched. To me he is the essence of what football is soposed to be. Doing everything with finesse, not forcing anything, everything just seemed natural to him. And at the end of the day he always remained humble deep down. At the end of the day he was just a man and this is what I loved about him. He had his flaws but noone else could make me feel the way he did when he played and to me this is the most important. He never scored 50+ in a season, he was never the star guys like Messi and CR are nowdays being everywhere in media, yet more (grown) people loved him than any modern superstar. Maby he is not the best ever but for me he will always be the greatest becous at the end of the day it is not about all the goals and the trophyes but about all the emotions that the game brings. Football is the beautiful game and Zizu was personification of that.

Man I am really missing the early to mid 2000s, to me that was the golden age of football with geniouses like Zizu, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Raul and everyone else...

My idol.

I was an 8 year old French kid during the 2006 World Cup. I already remembered Zizou from the Euro 2004 and especially his game against England. Then, July 2006 was my true football birth. His games against Spain and obviously Brasil completely blew my mind. The memory of him being a football God amongst men against Brasil is still very alive in my mind. I remember every single second of this game: I remember how I was dressed, how hot it was this day, which neighbours and friends of my parents were watching the game with us, where I was siting on the couch. The dribbles over Ze Roberto and Juninho I believe after 30 seconds and telling myself "ok he will dominate tonight". After this World Cup I knew I definitely wanted to play football for a long and that I would try to be like him. So lucky to have him as an inspiration.

If Zidane had won this World Cup - which would have been more than fair - together with the other old bald heads of this team such as Barthez, Thuram, Makelele and Viera, he would have been in the conversation for best player of all time. I think he should be in this conversation anyway but guys like Pele or Maradona won it multiple times and Messi won much more trophies than him so he is not always mentioned. He is my GOAT. I can not thank him enough to have fueled my passion for so many years. Watching his highlights bring back the 8 years old me and it's priceless. I hope I can meet him one day.

No need to argue, he's the greatest player of all time in the modern era... A magnificent player in every game he played, and a true god in the greatest matchs... World cup, Euro and Champions League, almost by himself in less than 4 years...
Who has done that in the modern era, a single man, dominating a sport? Not even iniesta come close. Who has raise an entire country, wining everything, against the best players...
No one has his touch, with both feet, vision, elegance and intelligence... He never needed the speed of a messi or the muscles of a Ronaldo, he was just above, insanely gifted. Nobody could take the ball from him, it was surreal sometimes, inventing every game a new skill, a new move, like a symphony played with his feet...

He was out of this sport, out of this world, a privilege to witness, anybody who really watched him, and knows football, deep inside, knows he was the best of all time, the best in every league he played, the best in the continent, and the world.
What he did, has not been done since... Skills beyond imagination..

Ronaldo was called phenomenon, than Zidane is that force that unleashes Ronaldo. Zidane's play is all about excerting influence on the pitch, both team mates and opponents fall spell to the force he unleashed. He is like a hypnotizer, he is not the fastest nor is he the strongest, but he definitely knows how to manipulate the ball the most natural and non-intrusive way. I always wonder how can he control the ball so well with so few touches, nobody can do that except him!
