Context:
Lucifer took his brother's life a few weeks before (in an act of self defense). This causes Lucifer to feel guilt and pain. A few weeks later he is working a case with the LA police department, where the shooter wants to shoot a medical worker. Wanting to off his own life (or just feel any form of emotion), Lucifer stands in the way between the medical worker and the shooter, trying to get himself shot.

The shooter wants to shoot the medical worker because the medical worker had treated his late wife, but failed to save his late wife's life. So now the shooter wants revenge.
