I'm very passionate about wastage (especially in the kitchen) and so I reuse as many ingredients as possible. Used vanilla pods are something that people usually throw away but there are SO many uses for them!

Watch my ultimate kitchen hacks and you'll never throw a vanilla pod away again!

Enjoy! x

Thanks so much for sharing this!! I have no idea how many pods I’ve thrown out (I always thought it such a waste, especially for how expensive they are) but never again! Love your tips xx

Thanks for still giving us ideas, I always put the pods in the vodka or banana bread. You should try it if you like bits in your banana bread.

Wow! Thanks for all the tips! I've been making my own vanilla extract for a couple years. But I'd never heard of vanilla powder. I just love vanilla. It's my favorite flavor. I even love vanilla scented lotions, creams, and body spray!

You can also save some money and buy b grade vanilla pods. These pods are drier, smaller, and can sometime be damaged. That in no way effects the quality. B grade vanilla just contains less water which makes it perfect for vanilla powder. These are also referred to as extract beans and are preferred for their more concentrated flavor.

Can you think boiling the skins and using that liquid for flavoring of something else? Granted the flavor from the water might not be as strong as desired but it would give a little flavor to something.

I'm new to vanilla pods. I bought some for an ice cream recipe. Where do you buy such lovely plump vanilla pods? I'm also interested in making vanilla extract. Also what do I look for when buying vanilla pods?

I'm pretty much watched all your vids and there great but I DESPERATELY need to know. I'm making my daughter's 1st birthday cake. If I make the drizzle cake you made how soon must I cover the cake with buttercream once I've made the sponge and how long would it last . I'm thinking to make the cake on wens and serve it on Sat. Is that way too early? And how would I store it . In the fridge (I'm guessing it dries it up?) Or in air tight container? And if I don't cover the cake with buttercream and I chose fondant how long after I've made the sponge do I need to cover the cake and again how long does it last ?
