Did Honkai: Star Rail Forget About 4 Star Characters?

One thing Honkai: Star Rail has been known for is the sheer number of five star characters it releases in relation to its predecessor: Genshin Impact. Since the game came out, every version we've had two new five stars. But there haven't been that many four star characters in comparison. So I wanted to talk about it today!

It's stupid that we haven't gotten any new 4 star Preservation Characters since launch

Releasing powerhouses too quickly AND having so few four star characters is such a rough combo. I want more filler content with reusable assets (like aetherium wars, the museum or excavation games, or the galactic baseballer) in back half of patches, plus some double drop weeks, and I’d be happy to still invest with slightly longer patches.

Still crying and coping with wanting Siobhan as well. And would be even okay with 4-star versions of existing characters as remixed skins.

I didn't realize this was what the problem was, but I DID notice that every time I would try to look for a team comp for a new unit, they would go "If you're a f2p use Asta/Pela/Herta/Lynx but if you're not f2p if you don't have Ruan Mei you're a fool A FOOL" and just so many team comps that are shackled to limited five stars. "Oh you wanna know how to build this new units, you should've pulled for the last one, too bad"

I'm not sure if more four stars would necessarily help THAT problem, but I can dream

I just want a 4 star Ruan Mei. The only thing that sucks about Ruan Mei is that there's only one of her to go around

I’m at a point where unless a 4* is integral to a team (Gallagher) there’s no reason to build them because the 5* are overwhelmingly more powerful than them in every way

Hoyo still has that Genshin big three (Benny, Xinqiu, XIanging) PTSD.

Considering the Trailblazer is usually used for the harmony slot as of recently, maybe a preservation character with a targeted taunt similar to March 7th's one. Last time we had a character with a dedicated "Taunt" effect was 1.0 with the Preservation Trailblazer and considering we have Yunli coming up which functions similarly to Clara there would be some good synergy there.

I think they just didn't add new 4 stars since Gallagher because there's no more new characters left in Penacony who could fit being a 4 star. There's Siobhan who could've been a playable character considering there was an event centered around her but she's ultimately just an NPC. I think now that we're returning back to the Luofu, there will definitely be new upcoming 4 stars like a certain tall hooded fellow if you know what I'm sayin'.

Short answer: more 5 star equal more money

A 4* Ruan Mei that gives 25-30% Weakness Break Efficiency on Ultimate instead of Skill would be pretty cool to see

One thing that they can easily do with 4* characters is something comparable to Gallagher's situation - create or expand a team archetype revolving around a specific mechanic and add a 4* that synergizes with it (or a free character, including someone's new Path). It removes the pressure to pull for a whole 3 or 4 characters to have a complete team while being potentially more financially viable in that once you have some of the units in an archetype, it's more enticing to complete the lineup with a powerful 5* or two (especially if the 4* is available together with them on the banner, like Gallagher with Firefly).

Side note: I'm wondering if they're planning to do something with Additional DMG, cause originally we got a bunch of characters with it in 1.0 and then almost nothing up until Robin who deals almost all of her DMG as Additional DMG, and now we also get Jade and March 7th.

4:16 as someone whos mained himeko since launch, everything i read during that time said hook was actually the best fire dps unit at launch before pure fiction pseudo buffed himeko and before she got better teammates and relic sets

The fact that Yukong was the ONLY 4 star Imaginary character up until March 7th's Hunt form is insane to me

Imagine a preservation 4-star that gives a chance at dodging attacks. Use a skill, everyone is in the “tricksy tanuki” state. In this state, when attacked, characters have a 50% chance to resist said damage, and when they do, they gain the energy they would’ve gotten, and the enemy has a ~5-10% vulnerability debuff put on them for 2 turns. Talent could be something along the lines of, for every ally on the field, the resistance chance for this character increases by 5-10%. Ultimate could be to double the vulnerability multiplier for 1 turn.

I think a 4 star harmony character that buffs HP scaling attackers could work. Right now there's only Blade so their niche is pretty situational so people may not want to build them but it's nice to have an option and could lay the foundation for more HP-based DPS

This issue is not at all limited to Honkai Star Rail, but an issue with all Gacha Games, in my experience. The amount of 5 Stars, SSR, UR, or whatever is the highest rarity is tends to usually dwarf the amount of lower rarity characters. The exceptions to this being if the game has 3 star or lower characters, but the problem generally being the same because both the amount 5 star and 4 star characters vastly outnumbers the lower rarity characters.

Before they make more 4 stars. Make it so that you can choose which 4 stars you can get on a banner. Because at some point, getting a 4 star for a late player will be hard (started late, played after 2.0, very sadge no Dr. Ratio for me)

Things I would like to see are someone to give a taunt on your allies such as fire mc taunt and not like March 7th or Lynx increase aggro. Another one is aoe attack down debuff. Then, the final one I would like to see increases the speed of summon allies such as lightning lord or numby. These don't have to be 4 stars. I would like to see them in a kit rather than 4 dps in a row.

I'm really hoping that Shioban is revealed as a 4☆ when Sunday comes out eventually
I remember seeing Hoyolab actually asking if no new 4 star was okay, and most of the sub that I could see was pretty chill with it
I'm a new player, so I'm going into this video pretty blind, can't wait to hear your perspective
