To us old timers we will still refer to it as Benning, deal with it.

LOL @ The people upset in the comments that they changed the name of the Fort to an American hero instead of it still being named after a traitor.

Great name change; COL Hal Moore and his wife Julie Moore are well deserving of the honor to have a federal post named after them.

No disrespect to LTC Moore but it should stay Benning

I was born in Fort Bragg. A large chunk of my childhood was in Fort Benning. Later, went to basic training in Fort Benning.

Going forward, I will absolutely call them Fort Liberty and Fort Moore respectively. I will refer to them in my past as Ole Fort Bragg and Ole Fort Benning.

While it's understandable to be concerned about the financial implications of renaming Fort Benning, it's also critical to consider the symbolic weight carried by the name of such an important institution. Brigadier General Benning, was not just a Confederate general, but also a staunch advocate of slavery. He argued fervently for the institution of slavery, positioning it as central to the Southern way of life and economy. Let that sink in. What he represented are fundamentally at odds with the values of freedom, equality, and human dignity that the U.S. Army and our nation as a whole uphold today. The cost of a name change could be viewed as a necessary investment in aligning our institutions with our principles, ensuring that we honor figures whose values reflect those we hold dear today.

Maybe they should have just named them all base 1, 2, 3 and on, just in case. It would save a lot of money and nobody would have hurt feelings. Too bad they didn’t spend that money to upgrade some of the old stuff like housing and barracks. 33 million dollars but I am sure if you want them too they will spend another 33 million dollars to dig up the bones of the dead bad guys and throw them out in the sea to be gone forever.

Base names have changed before Edwards AFB was once named Muroc AFB. Is it really appropriate to have a base named after an officer who showed no allegiance to the Unites States and participated in an open rebellion? I understand for some that is hard pill to swallow for some because the name is tied to a legacy of to the history of the unit they served it while others think this is done because of wokeness. The reality is the base had been named after a man who took arms against the United States and killed Americans to create a country founded on the idea that another man can be owned by another and held in Bondage.
Let me ask you this who don't think the name should be changed: Benedict Arnold was once the hero of Saratoga and later in the Revolution he betrayed the country. Do we have monuments that bear his name? Do we have forts that say Fort Benedict Arnold? The answer is No.

To paraphrase Ben Franklin in describing Arnold I will say this about Benning "Judas sold only one man, Benning betrayed Thirty-one million"

He did this so when he took arms against the United States.

Clear and simple.

You don't like it too bad but if you love this country you know its true.

Absurdity to change ages-old historic names, tear down historic statues ...

What the hell were they thinking when they named it Fort Benning? That would be like naming a base Fort Hitler or OJ Simpson. They were once heroes; would we still be bitching if we renamed those bases. Sometimes our heroes turn into villains; history rewrites itself, thank God.

Fort Benning it should always be known as. Bowing down to left wing politicis.

Rewriting history ye will eventually not learn who the Union fought against and under what flag and cause they fought for. Crazy!!!!
