For your technical information the American F22 Raptor and the F35 both have similar maintenance issues with their radar absorbent material (RAM) stealth coatings and also the Russian Sukhoi 57 Felon is affected in the same way. Each F35 is maintained by a crew of “low observable craftsmen” whose jobs after each flight is to remove part of the “low observable coating” (stealth paint)so that the plane’s engine panels can be removed for mechanical service. Sometimes areas of the plane exposed to weather need their stealth coatings removed to check for rust or corrosion underneath and then have the stealth coating very carefully painted back on in layers. After engine repairs the reinstalled panels must have all latches removed and fasteners or bolts repainted with the stealth paint. All this work means that each F35 will run a maintenance fee of approximately $27, 000.00 to $35, 000.00 each for every hour of flight; so, a 10 hr exercise can easily cost $200, 000.00 per plane. Each country that purchases F35s must sign a “maintenance contract” with Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer, for the life of the plane. Although the cost of each F35 ranges between $85 million to $420 million U.S. per plane, it is the long term maintenance contract that will be the main earner for the manufacturer. In this respect, Chinese and Russian stealth fighters are on even ground with their Western counterparts; the only advantage for the West is fighter pilot training, but now both the Chinese and the Russians have “Top Gun” training programs for their combat pilots similar to the Americans. In the world of combat aviation, the Israeli fighter pilots are recognized by the air forces of every country as the ones superior in skill, mainly because they don’t hold simulation exercises. I can imagine at speed the skin of the jet is hot enough to instantly turn the water to steam. I wouldn't bet my life or my country's security on "their jets are rusted on the inside".

Thing is, when you are flying at up to twice the speed of sound, the rain will not be able to even touch the jet... and the fact most planes fly above the clouds for fuel reasons like commercial ones.

It's the stealth coating that gets affected due to washing by water, F-35 has the same problem though they have improved few things I believe
