Salvage Deka Gel Cell Solar Off Grid Batteries?

I am going to try this Battery Tender Plus to see if it can charge these dead Deka solar cell batteries. I had bought four of these, used. When I got home, two of them were sitting at 6 volts. I called the lady, I bought them from, she apologized for grabbing the wrong ones. I went to get two more, and she told me to keep these if I would want to used them for a core charge some day.

I bought this Battery Tender that is designed for gel cell batteries to see if it might salvage them. Nothing ventured, nothing gained lol

Parallel that battery with one of the good ones and it will charge just fine. I don't believe the charger you are using is for deep cycle batteries. You will have to trick it so it see 10vdc by paralleling it with the other battery. Hope this helps someone

I know a guy who has a 200 amp charger and he used it to revive the standard lead acid car batteries. He charges them for about an hour at 200 Amps. It seems to break loose any corrosion on the plates and let’s them recharge. Not sure if it would work for gel batteries.

You will get more than core charge value if you sell them to a local scrap yard. They pay by the pound. Call more than one place as prices paid do vary. Van's, Phoenix Scrap etc.

Cool . With my charger, i put a test light across the terminals . It tricks the charger and lets some charge in to battery . after 15 - 20 min or so, a lot of times the battery will charge normal. Not telling others to do, but just what i do . Could try with a regular charger for a little and see, battery is junk anyhow .

I resolved a similar issue, using my 1000A, jump box. I connected it to the dead gel battery and left it, until it ran all the way down. Did that a couple of times, and gradually the voltage came back up. Once I had it over 11.5V, the charger would recognize the batter and charged it all the way up. Been good ever since then.

I have charged these with that low of a charge with the same charger by adding a good 12 volt along with the low volt one. Give it a little time then it should be fine to disconnect the good one and continue to charge as usual.

sometime you can hook a good battery to the low voltage one and it will bring it up to where your charger will work, hook +-+ and -to-.

Hey Joe!
See if you can beg/borrow/steal an old fashioned *dumb* charger. They don't care what your start voltage is. Many modern smart chargers won't even try to charge if the voltage is below about 10.5 volts, as you have just found out. :o(
If nothing else, they're worth a few bucks as scrap.
All the best, matey.

What do you mean by core charge? I just assumed those 2 are useless junk if they cannot be reconditioned like lead acid batteries.

Try this, Get a good battery put the charger on it, Get a 12v 21watt light. Red to red, black though the light to black. Should light up, give it a day, then try the charger on the low battery.

Most battery tenders will churge. Joe sell batteries, especially from 1 to 2. Maybe 3 m's maximum, some come with a 7.8 Amphius. There's a lot of films that come with the 2 AM to 3M fused to 5 AM views the 7.8 M views possibly in some chargers I would recommend a noco. 2 and a 1/2 to 3 empty battery charger. Smart charger for a jail cell battery. But I can also tell you that, uh, if you put it on force mode or repair mode, you can actually repair it to get it app to the current you need and then you can go from there. Usually it'll go from 6 to 9 to 12. It repairs and it will recover jump so batteries, but there is a way to recover a battery. It's still water as you look on those batteries. There are ports. You may have to pop those ports and get in there and use a syringe with a plastic sharp needle. Be careful doing so. Then turn around and repeat the process again. By recharged it after you Receive them
