Back in the day when this album came out, we loved how heavy and hard core SOAD was. Decades later, classical professional singers and musicians are fascinated by them. I didn't see that coming back then, but should have.

Should definitely look at Questions! From Spiders - Questions is a crazy transition that shows the evolution of the band. It's up for debate whether the evolution was for the best but definitely fascinating.

Moonhearts in Space is a VERY unique song Serj did with Tina Gao(?), fantastic cello!

Serj's voice is incredible😌There is this pain in his voice that makes you feel him SO clearly ( I find the same feeling in the artist Asaf avidan :))

About the video 😅 somehow reminds of a story from greek mythology about a woman, Arachne who was a skilled weaver. But Arachne boasted that she had more talent than the goddess Athena (goddess of war) herself. This was an offense to the gods and a very serious sin, so the goddess Athena transformed her into a spider to weave throughout her life.

I am really glad you decided to react to this one. I thought you might like it and was curious what your take would be. Great reaction and analysis. It is a very powerful song. I have been listening to it for decades and have performed covers of it in my past, but it still evokes a strong emotional response for me. Spiders & Aerials are my two FAVORITE songs by SOAD. You should do Aerials next but, Streamline & Question are also great choices to cover as well.

Wonderful analysis, Anna! I’ve always found the composition of this song impressive. The guitar “solo” is so simple, but especially as the bass drops to those lower notes the juxtaposition builds enormous musical tension, leading right into Serj’s outpouring vocally (love the intentional warbling, then that final “Before…”).
Your dive into the tritone was really cool!

Hi Anna, I am a new subscriber to your channel. I really enjoyed your videos and reactions. As a loyal SOAD fan since puberty, I totally agree when you mention the duality of Serj's vocal nature (I don't know if I expressed myself well here heheh) regardless of his agility and the personal context of the band (members of Armenian descent). I was fascinated the first time I listened to them, and something I want to highlight apart from his vocal and melodic dynamics, is the other duality he has with the guitarist; Daron. Their voices contrast in a unique way; sweet, depressing voices as well as full of unbridled and chaotic energy accompanied by very symbolic lyrics with a lot of message like Aerials, Tentative or Sugar. I highlight Daron's vocal talent because it gives a second face that refreshes the band. We went from a terribly melodic, tense and uncontrollable aura to a chaotic, 'dirty' and messy aura (trying to bring out the tender side of his wildest face lmao). Anyway, I hope you can react in the future to songs like Lonely Day, Soldier Side and BYOB. Cheers. PSDT: sorry for my bad english, I speak spanish :(
