Short story, due to a bad blood transfusion in 1982 I was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2014. The cost of MRI's and radiation treatments is expensive! My last trip through radiation in February was $36, 000. I have Plan F from the start (78yrs old) the peace of mind of full coverage out ways the small difference in plan costs and no hassles in getting treatment.

My cousin is on original Medicare and was recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He told me now he had just been dropped by his drug plan. There is just no security to Social Security and Medicare and Seniors who have worked hard all their lives need to get all these laws changed. We need a national health plan that covers everyone 100%. This country is so far behind others when it comes to health care.

Finally, some real life dollar amounts. Best presentation I have seen so far on this confusing topic. Thank you and I wholeheartedly appreciate you for information you give us seniors.

For anyone needing to save 20 mins. The answer is Medicare G plan + Prescription Plan . Skip the private "advantage plans". Exception might be some places include discounted Advantage plans as part of a pension package. This is what I have heard elsewhere. Nice presentation.

Advantage plans are for those that cannot afford traditional Medicare with a supplement. I only have Medicare part a because my spouse and I are blessed to he able to have employer coverage which is less expensive and covers more than Medicare with a supplement. When I am ready to transition to Medicare I will consider your services. Thanks for the informative videos

Excellent presentation! My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 18 months ago. Thankfully, he's in remission. He'll retire in a few months and will retain Medicare + Plan G as per the advice of our insurance agent. I've been healthy and on Medicare + HD Plan F; am happy with it. My max yearly OOP is just under $2, 500 and my premium will actually go down next year to $58/mo. BCBS also sent me a $350 premium refund for 2022. A lot of folks are on Plan G and they tend to be sicker, so I expect that the rates will rise accordingly.

I finished 7 weeks of radiation therapy this summer. The facility billed $176, 000 for the treatment. Cancer isn't cheap.

Nice analysis with a hypothetical example, it puts some perspective on the costs beyond Medicare insurance into the mix. I'm about to go one Medicare and was going through an analysis like this. Some of the Advantage plans in my area have significantly lower yearly OOP expenses than you show here, but you have to pay an added cost for the 'C' plan (the one I'm looking at is $40/mo). While it adds to the overall cost of Medicare, its still makes an Advantage plan significantly cheaper than an Original Medicare plan (A, B, G, and D/Drug), would reduce the cost of a situation like this, would reduce the long-term cost of medical expenses (insurance and treatments), and gives (me) a higher 'comfort' level with the plan. Disclaimer: If I sign up for an Advantage plan at 65 y.o. them immediately get a costly disease like this, then yes, I'm financially 'upside-down 🙁. It just comes down to your family history, current medical condition(s), and how much 'risk' you're willing to accept.

I would like to ask what are the best plans for drug coverage for people diagnosed with cancer.

My wife takes Verzenio which is to prevent high risk of reoccurrence.

Fortunately I am still working and she is covered under my plan as long as I keep my insurance and keep working. I am 67 and she will be 62 so too young to get Medicare.

The drug is currently tier 5 and when I checked the monthly cost I was floored.

I just wanted to ask so we can be prepared and the some of the take home drugs for cancer are incredibly expensive.

Thank you.

I am new to Medicare but I learned early on that Medicare Advantage is NOT the way to go. I went with high deductible plan G and heavily considered just the regular plan G. I am healthy but you just never know.

Had an AARP guy talk me into a United Health Care plan. Said I would get $50
a month. Didnt say anything about co pays of $35.00. I see my GP, a cancer Dr
, a sleep dr., a knee dr. After 2 copays it eats up the $50.00 I get. Before going on this pos plan, I had Medicare, Tricare and no copays. I was told by United Health Care I cant drop it and go back to what I had before. I am more than uset.

I was hoping to hear more about Plan N. I know it's very similar to Plan G but for a cancer patient, it might be much cheaper over the coming years.

Where I live in Florida my G costs $181 per month and it’s still well worth it, though I admit it frustrates me to no end that the price is based on location. Why does that matter as to the cost of medical care?
