Día de los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead) is Mexico’s biggest holiday and celebration of the year. Often confused with Halloween or a holiday that only celebrates death, this holiday - rich in tradition, superstition and celebration - is a massive party and time for celebration for Mexicans all over the world!

Like us, thousands of people travel to Mexico each year to take part in the day of the dead festivals and parades. This year, we are experiencing Dia de los Muertos in Oaxaca, which is one of the best places to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Mexico!

We had the most amazing time in Oaxaca celebrating Dia de los Muertos. Where to celebrate, how to celebrate and what to do in Oaxaca during Dia de Muertos are all covered in this comprehensive, two-day tour of everything this celebration of life and death has to offer. Whether you are planning a trip to Mexico or want to learn and celebrate Dia de Los Muertos on your own, this vlog is packed with stories, history and the spirit of the holiday.

Throughout this video, we share the history and origins of Dia de Los Muertos, explain what all of the decorations represent, explain the meaning of the Day of the Dead, show how Dia de los Muertos is celebrated, show you how you can participate in the festivities, and much more!

We've been wanting to visit Mexico for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) for YEARS and finally made it happen this past year! Going into the festivities in Oaxaca, we knew it would be a fun and festive experience, but we got so much more than we expected. We learned SO MUCH about the meaning, history and traditions of Dia de los Muertos, and connected with the holiday on a personal level. We're excited to finally share this video with you 😊

I have to say that that was a fantastic video. Many travel vloggers either give no info because they’re clueless and just want to party. Or they give way too much info and it’s like you’re in a lecture. This was the perfect blend of normal traveling and just the right amount of facts and tips. Well done.

I'm from Oaxaca and that bread is not tradicional in the state, that is from México city, but due to the rise of tourism because cocos movie, they ARE making it to please the visitors, second the monarca butterfly is a thing from Michoacán state and the meaning is from the purépecha people, Oaxaca used to be more tradicional unfortunly we are a state that lives from tourism and started to mix it with every thing that comes from people from usa, México city ( they think knows everithing), and usually only the partisipant in comparsas were the ones to use make up like a sugar skull as well the flowers in the head. The parade was at night but also the penitent used to wip them self and the people around gave them fruit, fotos or money

Dia de Los Muertos: The “3000 year old tradition” first imposed by Mexican politicians in the 1930s and then aesthetically re-invented by Mexican-American artists and activists living in Los Angeles in the 1970s. Dia de Los Muertos wasn’t celebrated by anyone until Instagram made it cool in 2010. We celebrated All Saints Day and All Souls Day, just like all the other catholic European countries all around the world.
