Why Did Leo Tolstoy Write War and Peace?

I committed the cardinal sin of Youtube - adding a bunch of block text in a video. But I figured if you're interested in War and Peace, you probably don't mind reading.

Over the years i have read war and peace many times, its a master piece, its my favourite of all time, the film with audrey hepburn and her husband mel farrer is the best version

I just finished the book and it is extremely readable. He’s reflections on war itself are as applicable today as they where back then.

Wonderful examination of Tolstoys mindset. Explains his immense historical outpouring interwoven into the characters experiences. At times, this can be cumbersome and somewhat boring but ultimately pays off beautifully. It's an intimidating book by shear size alone, but immensely rewarding in its scope.

Thanks for this wee vignette on War and Peace. I'm just listening to the first Epilogue. Such an enjoyable book. Today I've spent £50 on the 1967 Russian film of it and can't wait to watch it.

I just ordered the book two days ago. I am not a very good reader, now at 37 I have decided to try and read more complex books try and get a better grasp? of the world around me through ligature... yep I can't spell either this will be interesting.

🤔 is 50 yrs really that long though? I mean ww2 was 80 yrs ago and though dwindling we still have some veterans. Even ww1 veterans were still around in some numbers until about the early 2000's even a few in the 2010's. I guess in the realm of history it doesn't seem like that big a disconnect for me.
