Ventura Highway - Bass Cover - Request

Hello :) This is the requested transcription I did of the America song from 1972 "Ventura Highway" that the great studio musician Joe Osborn played bass on.

Some things to point out on this song:
- tune up about 15 cents to match the recording
- play the notes long except where notated
- using the open D string in some spots will help keep it smooth
- it sounds and feels like a pick was used

Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy :)

Great cover. Drums are my main instrument but I've been playing guitar for years too. I decided recently to try bass. I've really enjoyed playing along with your tracks! Having the tabs scrolling along have helped my playing a lot. Thanks for sharing and I really appreciate the work you put into it!

Joe Osborne, for me, is one of the greatest bassists of all time. It was always like the rest of the band was playing around him. Notice how, on all the songs he played on, the bass was always mixed hotter than usual, because it was so darn good!

I love how honest you were to the original track...even including the wrong note (G#) at 1:11! Great job!

Thanks! I would never have been able to figure that one out myself. Now, finally, I can play it.

Love finding gems like this... My band just picked this one up I know this will save me a lot of time. great job . (Admittedly I'll scare our guitarist when I show up with a copy of the notation you provided... my guess is they'll run and hide in the corner when I show it to them.)

Yessss! Great choice Greg! Love this one, and no better time to cover it:). Happy Summer!
This is a tricky one with all the syncopation, you're awesome sir:)

Nice cover. Another bass masterpiece by Joe Osborn, along w/ Tin Man. The bass notes tie the rest of the pieces in perfectly.

I Love this band. They are still pumping out hits as recent as 2015. Check out their album Lost & Found, and specifically the songs "Driving" and "The Quiet Inside".

fab. And a great exercise in displaced quarter notes/tied eighths!

Beautiful, melodic bass line. Thanks for posting. Makes me think of Mike Mills from REM, who wrote a lot of melodic bass lines on the upper three strings, albeit generally less busy and syncopated.
