Viewable dislikes are gone. This video got mostly positive reception. Except from Super Mario 64 fanboys.

I'm aware Super Mario 64 is "low". Please keep in mind that just because it's ranked lower, doesn't mean I hate it. I just enjoy the other 3D Mario games a bit more!

In my opinion, nothing can ever top Galaxy for me. It was the first 3D Mario of my own and the aesthetic of that game sends chills down my spine and makes me tear up. It is truly one of my favorite games ever. I have so many great memories with that game just enjoying messing around and making up scenarios of my own in levels instead of actually beating the game. I did the same with Galaxy 2 also, but Galaxy 1 just hits harder. I seriously miss those times and playing it makes me feel extreme nostalgia. There are times I play the game and I have to stop to cry.

That intro song feels nostalgic because it feels like a 2012 YouTube intro

This man put 64 at number 6 and acted like it wasn’t controversial

Edit: I don’t mean I disagree or disrespect. I actually agree with most of this list. I just find it funny that he didn’t even acknowledge it.

This is almost in order of release, because Nintendo puts the same passion in all of their 3d mario games. What makes the newer games better are better graphics and technology improvements that allow worlds to be bigger and more fleshed out

3D world is seriously underrated. I love that game

You should rank the Mario and Luigi series.

My favorites are still going to be SMG and SMG 2. I loved playing these years ago and I would love to replay them but siblings gotta scratch the discs 😔. The music in these games are by far the best out of any other Mario games. Gusty Garden Galaxy and Cloudy Court Galaxy are some examples.

Fludd was awesome! Weird that people didn't like him.

Good job for ranking Mario 64 DS higher, than the original version. I love the original version, and that version is better for speed running and it has great controls, but the DS version is better because of the gameplay. I mean, the DS version added so much stuff like 150 stars, 4 playable characters, new worlds, bosses, 36 minigames, and a vs mode. Also, the controls aren't that bad, since I got used to them. I feel Mario 64 DS is underrated.

The first game I ever played was Mario Galaxy 2 when I was 4, but a few years later before I completed the game my brother broke the disk so I bought Mario galaxy 1. I completed the game quickly, and I remember one of the best days of my life is when I bought Mario galaxy 2 for the 2nd time and nearly completed it in one day, I still haven’t completed it.

If I were to rank them only going off of my personal taste and opinions than it would go something like this-

8-Super Mario 3D land. This game was a joy and really thrusted the 3Ds into stardom, however it was the least creative of all the 3D Mario Games and didn't do too much new for the series as a whole.

7-3D World. My gripes and likes of this game are very similar to what's above, but this game also introduced multiplayer and made it something great to play with fans. However this game could've been better in many ways and again was a "play it safe " attempt.

6-Super Mario Galaxy 2. This might be shocking but I don't this game lives up to it's predecessor... the first game had an amazing storybook that you could follow along and gave the most personality and charm to a character in a 3D platforming Mario game. Rosalina was so mysterious and her story is both heartfelt and tragic. Her parents actually die and the game says so. It's about a lost child in space who finds a new star family. Beautiful. Galaxy 2 focused more on making you feel less like you were in outer space and had no story whatsoever. Really a step back in a few ways when a sequel should be so much more.

5-64 DS. I think this was an amazing remake, and it added many great new things and characters, however I don't think it was enough to project it any higher on the list.

4-Super Mario 64. What else can I say about this game. It was the forerunner to what 3D games are today and set the tone as to what 3D games could be. Open world, more realistic, and completely new and exciting.

3-Super Mario Galaxy. My enjoyment of this game almost make it tied with number 2. This was a beautiful game that felt so unreal and bizarre. And it had an amazing story too

2-Super Mario Sunshine. This is definitely gonna be controversial to most but I absolutely loved this game. It took what Mario 64 did and ran with it, adding collectibles, a new mode of platforming that resulted in many areas where it requires skill, and cinematic moments. This was pretty much the first Mario game to feature such elaborate cutscenes and with awesome voice acting. Fludd was also a great companion offering occasional tips without being a distraction or hindrance from the game. It featured all new villains and an entirely new place while having a beautiful vacation getaway feel.

1-Odyssey. This game took everything from it's predecessors and nearly perfected it all. Cappy creates a very new play style that is both intuitive and fun, new worlds that differ and are completely new, open world exploration, new races and many cutscenes. Also this time around the story was decent now that both Bowser and Mario have proposed to Peach

This is actually hard for me to rank as nostalgia and more openness in earlier games I love but the later games have much better controls and camera.

8. 3D Land - pretty much everything said in video
7. 3D World - fun game. Like the cat suit and bowser battles, especially the final one, but just not what I want from a 3D Mario game. Prefer the sandbox style to linear.
6. Super Mario 64 DS - great to play a console game on the go and like the additions, but I hated how stars/caps were locked to specific characters and it wasn’t that easy to swap between them so they really ruins it a bit to me.
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2 - fun game and like the new hats but just felt like an expansion of Galaxy to something new and felt many boss battles were just kind of ok.
4. Super Mario Sunshine - love the game and FLUDD was a great new mechanic to change up the gameplay. There were some fun worlds in here like Pina Park but many were just ok and while the felt cohesive which I liked it didn’t offer as much variety as some other games (still one of my overall favorite Mario games though)
3. Super Mario Galaxy - interesting new mechanics, great new character with Rosalina, and fun new hats to try out. The controls feel great too overall. My only real complaint for it is it feels too linear to me. Remember being really disappointed with the game the first time I played it expecting more open worlds and hub like Sunshine and 64 but looking at the game itself it was a lot of fun and still had some nice exploration.
2. Super Mario 64 - the game that started it. Remember playing it all the time when I was younger and loving it. Would just explore the castle and grounds a lot even. Could have plenty of fun without even going into a world. The only major issue was some glitchy camera angles. Even playing the DS remake I had a blast so it’s not just a nostalgia factor for me (though it probably does give it a boost)
1. Super Mario Odyssey - this game nearly perfected 3D Mario for me. It had all the best with the open worlds, fun new mechanics with Cappy, loads of challenges and moons, and best of all not getting kicked out after each one and being able to just keeping going. The only thing really missing is a hub world but you get a mild feel of that with the Mushroom Kingdom and the boss portraits (just wish you could have gone in the castle). Would love to see a sequel to this or at least DLC with a new story and kingdoms
