You try to explain the difference in the row and filter context by showing examples of SUM and SUMX and you said "they calculate the result totally differently" (at which point I was on the edge of my seat to see the difference in the calculation) but then you just followed that up by saying the difference is that "one uses row context and one uses filter context". That's basically a self referential definition of the terms that doesn't add anything. What is the actual detailed difference in how they calculate? Maybe if you gave an example where SUMX calculates something that SUM cant and explained why it can't it would be more enlightening as to the difference in the contexts.

Excellent videos and tutorial. Very helpful. I am a self-learner and this helped me a lot in understanding the concepts of DAX. Thank you

dax ??

Not sure how row context works with filter context from thsi explanation. For instance does row context chnage the filter context ? or does row contect take into account filter context from slicers, etc and if so do iterative functions canage the filter context . One of the reasons that Dax is so confusing is there are no clear defintions that everyone aders to and explations on Youtive are contradictory and offhand

I'm a bit confused. You keep repeating 'every single row in the table'. If that were true, then all the values would be the same. At some point in the process, the Product filter has to be involved. But you never mention it. I think you mean to say 'every single row after the Product filter is applied'. Or maybe, 'after it collects the data from every row it filters by the Product, and then does the Sum'. Could even be, 'every single row in a virtual table of Product'

I was able to do the same "*2" with normal sum(sales) also. So how does row context differ?

I’ve noticed you have a key measure table setup is this something you have created ?

I still cannot understand the expression "context"...it just so unclear and counter intuitive for me. It is being use so many times in every explanation but it is still unclear what does it exactly mean. I am here as i don't understand the logic behind ALL in cumulation formulas. So the SUM in one row is a "row context" or filter context? In a SUM measure, every row is just "filtering" the aggregation result (total sum) and in SUMX every row is just the final result?
