The news about Putin activating his nuclear forces gives me Mussolini Mustard Gas vibes. For those who don't know:

Ethiopians under Haile Selassie were defeating a modern Italian army in the mid 1930s. Frustrated, Mussolini ordered his pilots to drop mustard gas on Ethiopian civilians and soldiers alike.

When dictators are backed into a corner they strike out in extremely destructive ways.

In case of nuclear attack:
1. Try not to be within two miles of any major city center, military base, or industrial complex.
2. Seek shelter in a basement, subway/metro station, or in a ditch if nothing else is available.
3. Avoid major roads, because panic will cause mass congestion. Only if you are near a nuclear target should you flee, on foot if necessary. You might have as little as five minutes after any warning, if there is one. If you are two or more miles from a nuclear target, don't try to flee and seek shelter immediately. Don't look at the flash from the bomb because it can blind you and the radiation can burn you or poison you. After the blast, wait a few hours until the immediate fallout has been blown away and to see if there is a secondary attack, then immediately leave the area, heading out as far as possible. Place a wet rag over your face to avoid breathing in irradiated dust. Stay far way from other nuclear targets.
