I have a group of friends (ranging in age from 23 to 60 plus) who get together several times a year to cook for each other and have a cocktail competition and, of course, listen to music. This is our theme song. Great choice!

Great song. Another one with a similar feel is Three Dog Night "Shambala".

This song actually has a vary dark inspiration. From Wickipedia: Sherman Kelly wrote the song in 1969.[1] While recovering from a vicious attack by a gang, he "envisioned an alternate reality, the dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life". Kelly wrote: "On a trip to St. Croix in 1969, I was the first victim of a vicious St. Croix gang who eventually murdered 8 American tourists. At that time, I suffered multiple facial fractures and wounds and was left for dead. While I was recovering, I wrote "Dancin In The Moonlight" in which I envisioned an alternate reality, the dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life. The song became a huge hit and was recorded by many musicians worldwide. "Dancin In The Moonlight" continues to be popular to this day."

He recorded it singing lead with his band Boffalongo, who were active from 1968 to 1971, being the band's final single. The song was also recorded by High Broom and released in 1970 on Island Records (catalog no. WIP 6088; vinyl 7"). It failed to reach the UK Singles Chart.

Sherman Kelly's brother Wells Kelly introduced the song to the Paris-based band King Harvest in which he was drummer, and former Boffalongo member Dave "Doc" Robinson was lead vocalist, bassist and keyboardist. King Harvest recorded and released "Dancing in the Moonlight" as a single with "Lady, Come On Home" on the B-side in 1972. Steve Cutler, a jazz drummer from New York City (standing on the base of the pole in the cover picture), played drums on the tracks and toured France and the UK with the band. The group disbanded after six months and the single languished for a year until it was bought and released worldwide by Perception Records. In Canada, the song reached number 5 in the weekly charts and number 71 in the year-end chart for 1973.[

King Harvest are a one hit wonder. Other songs that create a sense of community are "Everyday People" by Sly and the family Stone; "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells and "Reach out of the darkness" by Friend and Lover(all 60s songs from 1967- 69☺

Oct 22nd we lost an American treasure. Jay Black of Jay and the Americans passed away. I have asked for you guys to review this man many times as he is truly a unique voice. Cara Mia, Come a Little Bit Closer and This Magic Moment all went to #1 and earned him the nickname The Voice.

A fun, chill favorite. It's not a high art song that should be in the Hall of Fame or anything. It's just a small band with a warm hearted song that became super popular.

OMGosh, this song and Johnny Nash's - "I Can See Clearly Now" were my boyfriends' and my songs. Amber, you are my spirit sister in music appreciation. You'd love 'I Can See Clearly Now' too, he does it live on The Midnight Special, and his dimples, oh my!😍

Dang, you're bringing back so many good memories. Definitely has that Brandy(You're a Fine Girl)vibe. Simpler, happier times.

Wow, this takes me back to my childhood! King Harvest, a true one hit wonder, but sometimes one hit is enough. :) Dave "Doc" Robinson is the vocalist here. For your next 70's one hit wonder, please do Billy Paul's "Me and Mrs. Jones". It's a vibe too!

I LOVE that lyric "you can't dance and stay uptight" that's the truth. Life is bugging you and dragging you down then dance a little and clear your head.

In the same note, try Van Morrison's "Moondance." It, too, is a vibe.

These guys released this song at EXACTLY the right time -- caught the spirit of the times perfectly, and the result was this massive hit.
