Thanks, I never thought of tying the rocks to the driftwood. I will try it in one of my next tanks!

Normally when I'm gonna do a new setup I'll let the drift wood soak weeks before I start my new scape as it's hard to boil larger pieces of wood. In my 75 gallon setup video you can see 2 pieces of driftwood that was too large to boil so I left them to soak outside in a larger container and it took 16 days.

Dear Zac:
I’ve found that Mopani driftwood lasts longest. Actually, I’ve never had any deteriorate, though I’ve been using it for about six years. I only dislike the amount of tannin it contains. I used to boil it, but this takes repeated treatments and ruins whatever pots are used, caking them with tannin. These days I let it soak for weeks (months) in 5-gallon buckets.
Thank you for sharing this, informative video on sinking driftwood.
All my best,
Sincerely,
E. J. Brinegar

This one OP, came to say this myself. Boiling it will weaken the wood, making it more susceptible to being invaded with algae and cyano, and will reduce it's lifespan in your tank because structurally boiling it weakens cell stricture and more prone to disintegration.

Listen to the people telling you to be patient or the people telling you to screw it to slate, either one works equally well. Though also of your slate is too large, the substrate under it can become anaerobic.

I tend to boil it then attach some rocks to it to help it stay underwater then comer the rocks with substrate

Hahahahhaa, , “if your using lead weights, , make sure they are stainless steel”…. Nice job kid with the options! Another option is to super glue them to pieces of slate rock

The easiest way I have found is to use super glue and glue it to the rocks your using. Then use some soil or sand to put in the glue so that the glue isn’t visible white when you flood the tank.
